University Releases Schedule
Of Fall Semester Examinations
The fall semester final examination schedule has been released by Ray V. Watkins,
scheduling officer. , ' I .
Examinations will begin at 1:20 p.m. Jan. 16, and will end 5:30 p.m. Jan 27. Regulations
pertaining to finals are listed in the Undergraduate Regulations.
Students having two or more examinations scheduled at the same hour should file a
conflict card in 2 Willard before 5 p.m. Dec. 16. Three examinations in one day are considered

Adds Five
To Staff
The appointments of five men
to the University staff have been
announced by President Milton
S. Eisenhower. The appointments
were approved at the weekend
meeting of the Board of Trustees.
Lawrence E. Dennis, former
special assistant to the United
States Commissioner of Educa
tion, will serve as administrative
assistant to the president of the
Universiy beginning Jan. 18. He
will fill the vacancy created when
Richard C. Maloney became as
sistant dean of the College of the
Liberal Arts.
Kenneth R. Erfft, business man
ager of Furman University,
Greenville, S.C., has been ap
pointed associate comptroller at
the University, effective Feb. 1.
He will assist Samuel K. Hos
tetter, comptroller, in business ad
ministration matters.
Alex Black, professor of ani
mal nutrition, has been named
assistant director of the Univer
sity’s Agricultural Experiment
Station.
Veterinarian
Robert F, Gentry, veterinarian
with the United States Depart
ment of Agriculture Regional
Poultry Research Laboratory, East
Lansing, Mich., has been named
associate professor of veterinary
science. Beginning Jan. 1, Gen
try will be responsible for the re
search program in poultry dis
eases and will aid in the poultry
diagnostic service, an -important
part of the expanded program of
the Animal Research Center.
Alfred K.. Blackader, associate
professor of meteorology at New
York University, has been ap
pointed visiting professor of met
eorology, effective Feb. 1.
Dennis received a B.A. degree
in English from lowa State Teach
ers College and an M.A. in journ
alism from the University of Min
nesota.
Past Activities
His past activities include his
work as a member of the edi
torial staff of the Des Moines, la.,
Register and Tribune, speaker at
civic and professional organiza
tions in lowa, and lecturer on the
social science faculty of Drake
University Community College.
Erfft received his B.A. degree
from Northern Michigan College,
his M.A. from the University of
Richmond, and his doctor of lit
erature from Mac Lean College.
He has also done graduate work
toward a Ph.D. at Northwestern
University.
He is a member of the national
committee on preparation of Vol
ume II of the “Manual, on College
and University Business Admin
istration.” He is the author of
“Thomas Edward Brown—A Bio
graphical Study,” and numerous
articles in trade and professional
journals.
Television Leader
A leader in the movement for
educational television, Erfft is
chairman of the Board of Direc
tors of Piedmont Educational TV,
Inc., which will operate channel
29 in State College.
Black received his B.A. degree
at the University of Kentucky,
his M.S. at Penri State, and his
Ph.D. from the University of
Rochester.
Genti'y served three years as
an instructor in veterinary science
at the University of Missouri and
three years as a research fellow
at Michigan State before his ap
pointment to the Department of
A_griculture.
Blackader was graduated from
Princeton University and received
a Ph.D. in meteorology at New
York University in 1950. At pre
sent he is in charge of a govern

within 48 hours after the exami
nation. Final deadline for grades
; s 5 p.m. Jan. 29.
Hours for the exams are 8 to
10 a.m., 10:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.,
1:20 to 3:20 p.m., 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.,
and 7 to 9 p.m. ■

Players 'On Approval'
Tryouts End Tonight
Players will hold final tryouts
for Frederick Lonsdale’s comedy,
“On Approval,” at 7:15 tonight
in the Green Room, Schwab Aud
itorium. .
The play will open, Feb. 26 at
Center Stage and will run for six
weekends. Rehearsals will begin
Jan.' 4, according to Walter H.
Walters, assistant professor of
dramatics and director.

For Players
Nine crews working on Players’ “Juno and the Paycock,” Irish
drama opening Friday at Center Stage, have been released by Kelly
Yeaton, director.

supervisor, Muriel Stein; and

Dominic Landro heads the house
crew, which includes assistant

Panel to Include
Talk by Prexy
President Melton S. Eisenhower
today will participate in a panel
discussion dealing with the meth
ods for expanding interest and
activity in the social science re
search program at the University.
The Social Science Research
Center Constituent body will hold
the discussion at 4 p.m. today in
10 Sparks. .
John H. -Ferguson, professor of
political science and administra
tive director of the Center, said
a business meeting at 3 p.m. will
precede the panel discussion on
“How Can We Expand Interest
and Activity .in Social Science
Research at Penn State?” '
Others on.-the panel are Clar
ence R. Carpenter, professor and
head of the Department of Psy
chology; Ben Euwema, dean of
the College of the Liberal Arts;
Harold K. Schilling, dean of the
Graduate school; William G. Ma
ther, professor of rural sociology,
who also will serve as moderator;
and Macklin E. John, professor of
rural sociology and head of the
Department of Agricultural Eco
nomics and Rural Sociology.
