Naval ROTC Exam
Scheduled Dec. 12
The eighth nation-wide competitive examination for to Naval
Reserve Officers' Training Corps has been scheduled Dec. 12. The
Navy emphasized this date is final and - examinations would not be
given at any other time.
Successful candidates will participate'-in four years of college
training with government assist
ance arid will be commissioned as
officers of the Navy or Marine
Corps upon graduation.
Applications, which are avail
able to high school and college
students within the ages of 17
and 21, must reach Educational
Testing Service, Princeton, N.J.
by Nov. 21.
Students passing the aptitude
test will be interviewed and given
physical examinations. If they
are qualified, names will be sub
mitted to state and territorial
selection committees composed of
prominent citizens and naval of
ficers for final selection.
College students who transfer
into Naval ROTC will be appoint
ed midshipmen USNR, and will
haire . tuition, books, and normal
fees paid by the government. They
will receive pay at the rate of
$6OO ,a year for -the four-year
period and will be provided with
requited uniforms.
Between each academic year,
summer cruises of from six to
eight weeks are scheduled to pro
vide practical shipboard training.
After commissioning, Naval
ROTC graduates serve on active
duty for three years before apply
ing. for retention as career of
ficers.

Three recommendations in the
Orientation Week committee re
port, presented by Charles Gibbs,
chairman, were accepted by cabi
net. Next year's Orientation Week
chairman will be appointed as
early in the semester as possible.
Some means of compensation or
recognition will be given to the
chairman of the Orientation Week
student counselor program, and
All-College Cabinet will estab
lish a committee to study the ef
fectiveness of this year's Orienta
tion Week program.

Address Changes
Students who have changed
their local address since register
ing or who did not list a local
address when they registered
should file a change of address
form at the Office of the Regis
trar, 4 Willard.
The new address should be re
ported as promptly as possible
since work has already started on
the Student Directory, which will
list local addresses, as well as the
home addresses, of students.
Employees of College
Exempted from Benefits
College sources have informed
the Daily Collegian that employ
ees of the College are not classi
fied as state employees and they
will not benefit from the 10 per
cent pay increase granted by
the state.
The raise in salary, granted in
the past session of the legislature,
does not apply to the College since
it is chartered as a private corpor
ation, officials said. Any pay in
crease to its employees must come
from the Board of Trustees.
