By All-Student Staff
To inform students of campus news and activities and to give
practical experience to journalism majors, the Daily Collegian is
published by an all-student staff .Tuesday through Saturday
mornings.
The Collegian is distributed at the Student Union desk in Old
Main and in living units.
The editorial staff; composed
candidate boards, gathers and re
ports campus news. National\and
international news is obtained
from the Associated Press wire
services.
Business Staff
The Daily Collegian tries to give
as complete and unbiased cover
age as possible. The paper is one
of few college papers free from
censorship and control by the ad
ministration. Members of the jun
ior and senior editorial boards
may not belong to either campus
political party.
The business staff handles ad
vertising, promotion, and circu
lation phases of production. The
arrangement of boards is - similar
to the editorial staff.
Newspaper policy is determined
by senior editorial board mem
bers, who receive monetary corn
pensation for their work. Senior
boarders give assignments and de
termine what goes into the paper.
Cattdidate - s to Be Called
Members of the junior editorial
board alternately act as night
editors, copy , editors, and wire
editors and write major news
stories. Sophomore and candidate
boarders act as headline writers,
proof readers, and minor news
writers.
A call for candidates will be
made soon. Candidates need not
be journalism majors. Classes will
be held weekly to teach Collegian
policy and style arid the rudi
ments of news writing.
Candidates will begin working
on the pap e r 4 p.m. / Monday
through Friday. Promotions will
be made on the - basis of interest,
effort, and ability.

Collegian is financed by a $l.lO
student assessment and local, na
tional, and classified advertising.
Candidates for business staff
will be called for shortly. Classes
to train candidates will be held
weekly. Promotions are made on
the same basis as the editorial
staff.

The Barons, Nittany-Pollock so
cial organization, was organized
in 1950 to promote recreation for
residents of the East Dorms. The
group sponsors social functions,
promotes coordination, and man
ages joint activities for the dormi
tory area.
Students living in the East
Dorms may become members of
Barons.. Active members who have
moved from the area may con
tinue to participate in the organ
ization.
Election of officers is held dur
ing the first three meetings of the
spring semester. At that time the
executive committee, composed of
officers, senior advisers, chief resi
dent adviser, and squire chair
man, is formed. The Barons meet
at least twice a month.
Among the programs held by
Barons is the Splinterville Re
view, an annual talent sho w.
Lounge parties are planned with
the cooperation of independent
women. In conjunction with the
Nittany and Pollock Councils,
Barons organize area-sponsored
activities for Spring Week.
Naval Reserve Unit
To Offer Radio Courses
The Naval Reserve electronics
unit will hold volunteer, non-pay
ing training sessions in radio, com
munications, Morse code, and theo
ry and kit construction this se
mester.
Veterans, inactive reservists and
non-ROTC members are eligible
for the courses. Meetings will be
held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.i - n. every
Monday in Engineering E.
1887, the Collegian progressed
from a. monthly literary publica
tion to a four-page daily in 1941,
and to, an eight-page daily in 1950.

ISCB Coordinates
9 School Councils
Interschool Council Board,"a co
ordinating body for school coun
cils, is composed of nine school
council presidents, including the
president of the new Business
school.
ISCB meets at least twice a
month to discuss problems of each
school and hear reports of council
projects.
Last semester ISCB presented
a consolidated fee plan to the stu
dent body. This plan, now in ef
fect, provides a uniform 25-cent
fee for students to finance school
council projects.
Under the sponsorship of ISCB
combined open houses were held
last year in all schools except the
Schools of Agriculture and the
Liberal Arts. Information con
cerning the open house program
was sent to neighboring high
schools.
This was the first time a com
bined program was held.
, Surgical instruments recovered
from- Pompeii include spatulas,
lancets, tongs, scissors, midwifery
instruments and others of out
standing excellence.

Spangler. Re-named
John M. Spangler, named last
year as general chairman of the
Alumni Fund, has been re-elected
to the post.
Spangler has stated he will re
quest school chairmen and other
members of the council who
served last year to continue their
positions.
