Lemyre Statement Voting this year was done with voting machines which supplied the major answers to the elec tion 'outcome by 6:15 last night. Last year the election returns were not known for almost six hours after the polls closed. When informed that he had won the All-College presidency Lemyre said: "This is one of the happiest mo ments I've ever experienced. I'm very grateful to the student body for the confidence they have be stowed upon me and I will try my utmost to uphold their expecta tions. I feel that more students took an interest in the campaigns this year and the State party or ganization and nominating sys tem were definitely a step in the right direction. My only disap pointment is that more students did not take the opportunity to vote." Elections Committee Carruthers said in part, "I, wish Dick the best of luck and hope to be able to assist in student gov ernment in any wa y possible. There are good men in every of fice and if they put their party planks into operation they can do much for student government at Penn State." Members of Alpha Phi Omega, national service fraternity, and the Daily Collegian staff assisted the elections committee operate the polls. Members of the elec tion committee are Richard Gross man, James Hand, David R. Jones, Edwin Kohn, Jane Mason, Diane Miller, Cordell Murtha, William Slepin, and Thorpe. Thorpe had nothing but praise for the Automatic Voting Ma chine Corporation's representa tive Morgan Doolittle, who Thorpe said let the committee use his new station wagon with only 400 miles recorded on it to stage a "get out the vote" campaign with the aid of a public address system.
