Miss Brookman has just ■ - j . \ turned from a tour of service women’s posts from San Francisco to Japan where she interviewed servicewomen and Army nurses. Shp will report "her experiences in her column “Our Readers Write to Us,” in the May Journal. On a previous , trip to Japan in 1946, Miss'Brookman gathered material on living conditions ■ there.' Her findings were published in “Tokyo Diary,” and ' “How Japan Lives” in fall issue? of the Journal mat year, y Other overseas experiences in clude work in Yugoslavia in 1947 and covering Army-Navy maneu vers in Puerto. Rico'in 1950. Last year Miss Brookman worked in Paris with Lydia Kirk, wife of the. former ambassador to Russia, on the book “Postmarked Mos cow,” which was . first published in the Journal. Among her most recent major assignments as managing .editor of: the Journal have been editing the letters of Edna St'. Vincent Millay, Edna Ferber’s “Giant,” and John Marquand’s ' “Melville Goodwin, U.S.A.”, which were serialized in the magazine. Under the pen name of Edwina Wilson, Miss Brookman wrote a biography of the • Dutchess of Windsor, “Her Name was Wallis Warfield,” published shortly be fore the abdication of King Ed ward of England. Miss. Brookman is a graduate of the University of Missouri. She is a member of the Women’s Na tional Press Club. Before she came to, the Journal ,in 1937, she served as Sunday editor of the Des Moines Register, women’s editor of the Baltimore Post, and fiction editor of the NEA . service. . Dinner Committee Tables Panhel Proposal Panhellenie Council’s recom mendation that noy, more sorori ties be chartered for several years has been tabled by the Senate, committee on student affairs, Wilmer E. Kenworthy, director of student affairs, has disclosed. The council pointed out the lack of suites and the fact that vacan cies exist in the membership lists of - several existing sororities .in presenting its recommendation to the Senate committee.
