will serve as floaters.
Christmas punch; cookies, nuts,
and mints will . be served. Table
and lounge decorations will carry
out the holiday motif.
Electronics Platoon
Open to Women
The Electronics Warfare Pla
toon of the local NROTC unit is
open to both officers and enlisted
men and women. \This - organiza
tion is designed to aid in learn
ing any phase of electronics or
maintenance.
Some of the , purposes of the
organization are maintenance of
NROTC retirement points; code
learning; construction of radio
sets; and short-wave radio opera
tion.
The group meets from 7:30 to
9:30 p.m. every Friday on the
fourth 'floor of Electrical Engi
neering. Lt. Comdr. Francis H.
Yonkers is the commanding offi
cer.
Froth Junior Board
Junior board members of Froth
who have not yet received their
shingles have been asked to turn
in their names at the Student
Union desk in Old Main today.
Profs Defeat
Frosh Bowlers
The freshman women's bowling
league activities concluded Mon
day night when the faculty wom
en defeated a freshman team com
posed of the five women with the
highest averages during the sea
son.
The faculty Women edged the
freshman women by a narrow 23-
pin margin. Members of the fresh
man team included Virginia Ball,
Shirley Hartay, Roberta Sankey,
Beverly Burkhar d t, and Lois
Schindehette.

schedule, Tea; - n.- - 6 ended :with a
perfect record of 6-0. - Team mem
bers were Diane Edelman, Betty
Smith, Kay Eisenhower, Judy
Corfield, Eleanor Cober, and Vir

A three-way tie for second place
between Teams 1,2, and 5 exists
in the final league standings, and
efforts are now being made to
schedule dates for play-offs.
Thomas-Minnich
Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Minnich of
Landisville announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Susan, to
Peter Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs.
W. R. Thomas of Greensburg.
Miss Minnich is a fifth semes
ter home economics major and a
member of Alpha Gamma Delta.
Mr. Thomas was graduated from
the College .in June in the School
of Mineral Industries and is now
associated with the American Cya
namide Corporation in Boston.
Brest-Spencer
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Spencer
of Wallingford announce the en
gagement of their daughter, Eliza
beth, to Robert Brust, son of Mr.
Mrs. Charles Brust of Glenside.
Miss Spencer, a graduate of the
College, is a member of Phi Mu.
She is teaching art at Oak GroVe
School, Elsinore, Del. Mr. Brust
is a senior in, commerce and. a
member of Theta Xi: No date
has been set for the wedding.

The Daily Northwestern has
made the news again. The editor,
Rick Dußrow, was fired last week
by the board of publications' in
a unanimous decision, for "mana
gerial incompetence, irresponsibil
ity to work with his staff and for
failing "to produce a newspaper
adequately serving the students
and the university."
But that didn't end' the Board's
activities.. It further ordered:
(1) That its statement be
printed in f ull in Tuesday's
paper.
(2) That Rick Dußrow not be
allowed to present his statement
in the paper. •
(3) That no letters to the ed:-
tor protesting the fir in g be
printed.
(4) That a petition signed by
the executive s t a f f protesting
The manner of firing not be
printed.
• And they posted four guards at
the door to the print shop to see
that none of the above could be
inserted • while th e remaining
staffers, minus seven editors and
several reporters who resigned,
put out the paper.

Plans Banquet

make arrangements for the Christ
mas party to be given Saturday
at Briarly Manor, a home for the

The council will, donate $5O to
the Penn State Student Scholar
ship Fund and will finance a
Christmas basket for the Associ
ated Charities of the College Joint
Community Fund.

Christmas Service,
Sing Next Week
The annual Christmas Service
and Carol Sing, jointly sponsored
by the Penn State Christian As
sociation and the Department of
Music, will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Dec. 18 in front of Old Main.
Dr. Hummel Fishburn, head of
the Department of Music, is in
charge of the Carol Sing, one of
the oldest traditions at the Col
lege.
The Chapel Choir, directed by
Mrs. Willa C. Taylor, will lead
the singing, and a brass ensemble
will play Christmas music.

The program committee for Re
ligion-In-Life Week, Feb. 17-22,
sponsored jointly by the Penn
State Christian Association and
All-College Cabinet, has been
named by William Griffith, chair
man of the week.
The committee includes George

IKE Pledges Paint
Hospital Furniture
Pledges of Tau Kappa Epsilon
recently painted and refinished
beds and furniture in the Centre.
County Hospital in Bellefonte as
a community project in their ob
servance of "help week."

hours a night, 12 pledges and sev
eral members of the house worked
on the project two nights.
All fraternities are urged by In
terfraternity Council President
Arthur Rosfeld to obtain similar
community projects for their
"help weeks." Such projects may
be obtained from the IFC civic
responsibility committee headed
by David Mayer, Kappa Delta
Rho.
