Sachs Statement

"Members of the Lion Party and
the candidates are very pleased
with the large turnout of the elec
tion." He added that the Lion
Party candidates "will do their
best for the College and their
classes."

Walter Sachs expressed satisfac
tion at a "well-run" campaign.
"I'd like to thank all the party
workers for their cooperation," he
said. "I feel that we have two
fine representatives for cabinet
and that it is a healthy situation
for student government," Sachs
added.
Bowers Replaces Smoot •
The two new presidents of the
freshman and sophomore classes
will be sworn into office and take
their cabinet seats at the meeting
of cabinet Thursday. The victor

Weathermen
The College is training weather
forecasters for the U. S. Air Force
for the second consecutive year.
The program, which. has been
accelerated to enable them to com
plete the work in August, has an
enrollment of 36 officers, accord
ing to Dr. Hans Neuberger, pro
fessor and chief of the division
of meteorology. A group of 33 Air
Force officers completed its train
ing Aug. 29.
Students selected for the pro
gram are graduates of accredited
colleges who received their com
missions through Air Force ROTC
programs. When they have com
pleted the year at the College they
will be awarded B.S. degrees in
meteorology.
• Penn State is one of seven col
leges chosen by .the Air Force to
conduct the program designed to
provide skilled meteorologists for
the air weather service.

Haines said that difficulty has
been encountered because some
solicitors have not been turning
in reports on the funds and pled
ges collected during the drive.
The thermometer which has
been placed at the corner of the
Mall and Pollock road is marked
with results of three years and
does not designate the amount
for this year, he said.

Homan, a varsity wrestler, was
the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrest
ling Association champion in the
1123-pound- class last year. He has
been active in intramural sports,
the Newman Club, the State Par
ty, and is a member of Sigma Chi.

Air ROTC Ranks
Third in Country
The College Air Force ROTC
unit, comprising about 2800, mem
bers, has been officially 'ranked
third among the country's Air
Force ROTC groups, Maj. John F.
McHugh has announced.
The Uniyersity of Maryland is
first with an .enrollment of 3300
students under the program, and
Ohio State is second with 3100.
The College's total includes that
of its three centers.
There are 189 Air Force ROTC
units in the nation, one in Hawaii
and one in Puerto Rico.
