Armistice Day
To Be Holiday
For Empioyees
Service employees of the Col
lege have been granted Armistice
Day as a day off, according to
Thomas Hartswick, secretary of
Local NQ. 67 of the State, County,
and Municipal Employees Union,
AFL.
An extra one-half day sick
leave per month has also been
granted, Hartswick said, and em
ployees on work schedule II have
been granted time and one-half
for overtime.
The concessions were made dur
ing negotiations following the re
turn of strikers Sept. 15. Negotia
tions are still in' progress, he said.
The strike, 'involving between
300 and 400 service employees of
the College, started Sept. 13. The
union asked for a 40-hour, 5-day
week, uniform - vacation and sick
leave programs, recognition for
all legal holidays, double time for
work on holidays, and corrective
action on "unfair labor practices."

A responsible consulting organization has
reported the results of a continuini - study by a
competent medical specialist and his staff on the
effects of smoking Chesterfield cigarettes.
A group of people from various walks of life
was organized to smoke only Chesterfields. For six
months this group of men and women smoked their
normal amount of Chesterfields 10 to 40 a day.
45 % of the group have smoked Chesterfields con-

Stressing the results of a recent
poll among the 'freshman women,
the letter states that the effective
ness of the rule is questionable.
The poll showed freshman women
who had been placed on their
honor to abide by the rule have
not felt the obligation to do so.
This, the letter continues; shows
that there is nothing objectionable
taking place at fraternity social
functions.
The letter also said fraternities
are trying to combat misguided
public opinion and that because
the College has . such a rule, the
public must feel that social life
in houses is objectionable. The
'tter also stated that fraternities
:ve received no assurance of
:Ifidence from the College that
situation has improved at all.
