McCoy Plans New Recreation Facilities Dean Ernest B. McCoy', who became head of the Penn State School of Physical' Education and Athletics in July, has made a num ber of suggestions for improvements in recreational facilities at the College. Two of these suggestions have been discussed considerably since they were first presented by McCoy at a joint meeting of the Athletic Association and All-College Cabi net, One of the suggestions is that a number of seats, arbitrarily set at 300, be set aside at basketball games and other Recreation Hall sports events fox- alumni, faculty, and townspeople'. McCoy sard at the meeting that selling tickets for these 300 seats would allow many persons to attend the games who, at the present time, cannot get to see them. Free Tickets Faculty members, for example, even those who are permanent residents of State College, are not given the opportunity to see these games. The same is true of alumni and residents of the bor ough of State College. Some tickets, about 150, are dis tributed free for the games through the players, who are per mitted to give them to their fam ilies and friends. Non-students do see games by receiving tickets from students, but this practice is against the College rule which says that student athletic' tickets are non-transferable. The second suggestion which has been under considerable at tack is a plan to divide student tickets for indoor sports events at Rec Hall into two groups, al lowing one half the students to see half the games and the other '-alf the rest. Fields Built This could be done by distrib uting tickets of two different colors to students, with a list of events to which each color is en titled. The division of events would be made as equally as pos sible, considering the relative im portance of the games. A number of other suggestions by McCoy have been put into practice or planned directly un ™ WELCOME GRADS METZGERS PENN STATE We also feature clothing souvenirs for TOTS ' You Can Get If At METZGERS” 111 - 115 S. Allen der the powers of the Phys Ed school. Under these powers a number of practice football fields have been constructed in the Nit tany-Pollock dormitory areas. As soon as the indoor sports season begins, the school plans to open Rec Hall for dancing after Saturday games, thus providing students with a means of Recrea tion following games. Basketball games and other athletic events are often over early enough to al low students to spend some time together, but not early enough to allow them to go to other places for activities. As soon as the weather becomes colder, Dean McCoy plans to open Rec Hall for coeducational activities, such as volleyball, shuffleboard, basketball, and the like on Sunday evenings from (Continued on Page S-7) '' \uTUMN BALL I •***’ ' TONIGHT! 8 Rec Hall 9to 12 Music by Jack Huber and His Orchestra Informal Refreshments <O9 TICKETS ON SALE AT THE DOOR | $2.00 A.I.M. .
