Do you have to make eyes to make A’s? Bell Telephone System THE DAILY COLLEGIAN. STATE COLLEGE. PENNSYLVANIA Local Color (Continued from cage one) for its share, of kidding in the first skit, “Hennessey of the Hort Woods Patrol.”' As the aging Hen nessey who fills his trash bag with candy, kite, and telephone direc tory so he can keep his job, Dick Neuweiler retains his status of campus funny-man. Three of the show’s best songs, “I’m So in Love,” “Why Can’t I Get a Man?” and “We’re Going Sorority,” are packed into the “Sorority Rushing Scene” num ber. Both handicapped right up to the, opening by severe cases of laryngitis, Pat Marsteller and A 1 McChesney came through in the true spirit of show business. Miss Marsteller’s warmth and vivacity made up for any-weakness in her voice as she lamented her man catching troubles. A male chorus line complete with out-size bosoms and blond wigs added zest and fun, and Nancy Lou Thomas and McChes ney were effective in the senti mental number. Nancy White got a round of applause for her char acterization of a stage-s truck rushee. A barbershop quartet and can can number add to “In Front of Grahams,” but again it’s ,an or iginal tune that makes it click. In “A Girl Has Got to Have a Little Fun” Suzanne Kiel is great as she laments that with dormi r tory hours she can’t be a lady and a woman at the same- time. Following the Graham’s num ber, “Fresh Frosh” Terry Dolson, people is only one aspect of the Bell Sys tem business philosophy. It underlies our constant search for w'ays to provide ever better telephone service at the lowest possible cost. A last minute stand was made by Dorm 37 to win the meet from the Penguins in the diving • com petition. The Penguins did not have any participants in the div ing division.'John -Britcher com piled 10.8 points for Dorm 37, but his score did/ not give his team enough points to overtake the Penguin’s winning margin of three points. Pete Lang and Beverly O’Connor .came out in front of the Big Red for an acrobatic dance number with a Mutt and Jeff twist-to it. Both this and the only other dance team, Tom Dennison and Sally Lou Jones, were well-received. The latter’s sultry ballet created a mood that contrasted well with the other acts. The cast £or the final skit, “How Mt. Nittany Got Its Name,” does its best with the material. But it seems a shame to end an other wise sparkling show with a pun— one of the worst ever—that sim ply produces a let-down feeling. The title song is rousing, how ever, and makes for a finale al most strong enough to obliterate the Nittany deal from the mem ory. 1 FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, 1952 Jood Food at 'opular Prices Ou/ Own laked Goods Fresh Daily OPEN Every Day 7 a.m. 'til Midnight E.
