IFC Defines
On Rushing,
The Interfraternity Council, representing Penn State’s fraternity
system, has announced and defined the interfraternity rushing,
pledging code and dating regulations for this year.
This code, set up by the IFC, became effective in the fall of 1951.

of all national fraternities, and the College administration acted as

ernity houses until their dorm
contracts are fulfilled.
Neither the rushee house guest
nor the fraternity is obligated to
the other in any way. All frat
ernities will have free and equal
access to any rushee. according
to the wishes of the rushee.
Pledging regulations state that
no freshmen are to be pledged
until they have, completed one
semester on campus. The date of
pledging will be announced by
the IFC. '
No upperclassman may be
pledged in the fall before 48 hours
prior to the beginning of classes.

Represents
15 Clubs
The Agriculture Student Coun
cil, one of eight student councils
on campus, is formed from 15
clubs representing the 13 cur
riculums in the. School of Agri
culture.
Each of the 13 departments is
represented by a club. The Lie
big Chemical Society stems from
agricultural and biological chem
istry. Other clubs are the Agri
cultural Economics Club, repre
senting the agricultural economics
and rural sociology departments;
Future Farmers of America,
stemming from agricultural edu
cation; and the Clover Club, which
.comes from the agronomy course
Included in the 13 clubs are
the Pre-Vet Club, Botany Club,
Dairy Science Club, Forestry So
ciety, _ Hort Club, Poultr - Club,
American Society of Agricultural
| Enginers, and the Zoology and
Entomology clubs. •
The clubs send a varying num
ber of representatives to the coun
cil, according to their member
iship. In addition to the clubs
mentioned, Grange and 4-H Club
are represented on the student
council. Two student publication's,
the Ag Hill Breeze and the Penn
State Farmer, each send a repre
sentative to the council.
Officers of the Ag Student
Council, which meets every other
Tuesday, are elected once a year.
Richard Stanley was elected last
spring to serve as president this
year. Other officers are Joseph
Arnold, vice-president; Nancy
Bigley, secretary; . and James
Boodley, treasurer. The president
represents the council on All-
College Cabinet.
Through the such
functions as the Ag Open House,
held last spring, and the annual
Ag Hill party are made possible.
The Harvest Ball, one of the big
dances of the fall, is sponsored
annually by the Agriculture Stu
dent Council.

West Dorm Men? Have
Own Governing Council
The West Dormitory Council was formed in 1950 to provide
student government for the male residents of the West Dormitories.
Students living in this area are represented on All-College Cab
inet through the president of the Association of Independent Men.
The officers of the West Dorm Council represent the area on the
AIM Board of Governors
Organization of the West Dorm Council will take place early
in the semester. The dorm area is divided into districts. Ip -.The
new dorms, a floor is a 'district.
In the Tri-Dorms,' each dorm is
a district.
To Nominate Soon
Each of these districts 'will
elect a president, vice president,
and secretary - treasurer. The
presidents and the vice presi
dents, if there are 105 or more
electors in the district, will rep
resent the district on the West
Dorm Council.
Nominations for district offi
ces will be held within the next
two weeks. Nominating petitions
for these offices may be obtained
from resident counselors and
must have the signatures of at
least ten men from the district.
One week will be allowed for cam
paigning, after which voting will
be held in the resident counse
lors’ suites.
The West Dorm Council will
hold its first meeting within one
week of the district elections. Of
ficers will be elected by majority
ballot of the council two weeks
after its first meeting.
Members May Be Dropped
Meetings of the council are
held once a week and are open
to residents of the area.
Organization of the new council
will be advised by the resident
counselor in charge of student
government.
The executive committee of the
council will include the adviser,
the officers, and the parliamen
tarian, who may be appointed by
the council president.
Council members will be
dropped from, their posts if they
are absent from three, meetings

Council committees may be set
up by the president. The chair
men of the committees mtist'he

ident of the area may be a mem
ber of a committee.
The West Dorms are also rep
resented on the AIM Board .of
Governors by two AIM. represen
tatives-at-large to be "elected af
ter the AIM board is organized.
The average automobile is
driven 12,260 miles its first year,
but the figure decreases each
year.
