Choir Plans
Five-Day
Workshop.
The Chapel Choir is planning a
five-day workshop session, Sept.
3 to 7, prior to the opening of the,
fall semester.
The daily program will include
rehearsals and lectures. A plan
ned recreational program will
consist of singing, folk and square
dancing, and swimming.
This is an - experimental plan
which has never been tried by
any other choral group, according
to Carroll Chapman, president of
the organization.
About two-thirds of • the 110
choir members are expected to
attend. The camp site chosen is
the Seven Stars Boy Scout camp,
which offers adequate and suit
able housing quarters, Chapman
said.
Hummel Fishburn, head of the
Department of Music, will be fac
ulty adviser. A student commit
tee consisting of Louella Val
mont, chairman; Joan McKinley,
David Fishburn, and Andy Zer
ban is in charge of arrangements.
New members have been se
lected to replace nearly all the
40 graduating ,members of the
choir..A few places are being held
for new students entering. in the
fall.

Professor Gives' Paper

the Oak Ridge, Term., atomic lab
oratories, will come to the College
September 1 as professor' of power,
transportation, and will direct the
construction of the pile.
Dr. Sauer said a written pro
posal to establish the isotopic lab
boratory will alsO be presented to
Dr. Walker for further presenta
tion to the Administration.
The establishment of an isotopic
laboratory was called essential to
the proposed nuclear engineering
program by R. Rupert Koontz,
professor of sanitary engineering.
The laboratory, Koontz reported,
could be housed in present facili
ties, and could' be established for
an estimated $82,000. The operat
ing expense, he added, would be
about 30% higher than an aver
age Chemistry laboratory, because
of the type of radioactive Mater
ials used, and could handle 60 stu
dents and staff members.
Engineering Professor
To Discuss Floridation
R. Rupert Koontz, associate
professor of sanitary engineering,
will discuss floridation and pub
lic water supplies today at a
meeting of the central chapter of
the Pennsylvania Society of Pro
fessional Engineers.
Koontz, a consultant on public
water. supplies, will speak at the
Clearfield-Curwensville Country
Club.
