Atlantic Co.
Drops Plans
For Gridcast
A decision to drop the broad
casting of college football games
was announced last Sunday by
officials of the Atlantic Refining
Co.
' College officials are awaiting
possible bids from sponsors who
wish to take over the contract
previously held by Atlantic and
Chevrolet.
As yet, no word has been re
ceived from Chevrolet as to the
action it will take in the matter.
Atlantic will turn to television in
replacement of the radiocast. The
Pittsburgh Steelers will be in
cluded in the program.
Atlantic started broadcasting
games in 1936 and first aired
Penn State games a year, later.
Bill Sutherland, well-known Pitts
burgh sportscaster, was the first
"name" broadcaster to announce
Nittany Lion games.
For the past two years Bob
Prince has been doing the play-by
play of both State home and road
games. The games were heard
over as many as 26 Central Penn
sylvania stations but sometimes
the total slipped as low as ten.
