14 Receive First Awards
In Dairy Livestock Show
Fourteen students won first places in the 27th annual Dairy
Exposition held Saturday at the Livestock Pavilion. The show,
sponsored by the Dairy Science Club, featured the fitting and
showing of five classes of livestock.
Winners of the fitting contes
Swiss; Norman Summers, Jersey;
kianos, Guernsey; and Don a l d
Taylor, Hershire. The grand cham
pion fitter was John Sarikianos.
Reserve g r and champion fitter
was Harry Doutt.
Grand champion of the show
ing, division was Edgar Fehnel,
and Harry Roth placed as reserve
champion showman. Other win
ning showmen were Norman Fis
cher, Brown Swiss; Summers,
Jersey; Fehnel, Holstein; Sari
kianos, Guernsey; and Rob e r t
Miller, Hershire.
The manufacturing division of
the Dairy Exposition took place
on Friday. In the ice cream and
milk judging contest there were
seven • winners. Winners in the
amateur division were Sarikianos,
milk; and Edward Reinsel, ice
cream. Robert Jenson, milk; Les
lie Shallenberger, ice cream; Earl
Rumberger. swe e p stakes; and
William Hershey, ice cream mold;
were winners in the professional
division of the contest.
The dairy cattle judging con
test, also part of the Dairy Ekpo
sition, took place May 3. Taking
first, second, and third prizes in
the amateur division were James
Hall, William Phipps, and Donald
Cope. Fehnel took first place in
the professional division, with
William Crawford and Roth win
ning second and third prizes re
spectively.
Vice-dean Russel B. Dickerson
was winner of the professor's
milking contest. Dickerson was
also winner in 1950.
Charles Windsor was given the
Breed Manager's Award of five
dollars for outstanding work done
in preparation for the show.
