ing the Lions on. "We didn't
know. we were sitting on the
Penn side until the game was
nearly over," Boudreau said. "We
just walked over and sat down."
With an eye for the future,
they asked for a ride back to
State College over the public
address system.
"It's a sad commentary," Ben
der said, "but we got no offers."
After the game they turned
their cards around to read: "Penn
State please . . . it's mighty cold
out" and got a ride to the edge
of Philadelphia.
Exhausted, they asked for ref
uge .at a Baptist theological sem
inary on Route One. "I gave them
a hard luck' story," Bender said,
"and told them my friend had
a 'bad back."
' They rose at 5:30 a.m. and
thumbed a ride to the turnpike.
"A long black Cadillac pulled up,"
Bender said. "It was Russel E.
Teague, state secretary of health.
He said son was up here and
tOld• us he was on his way to
Harrisburg for a cabinet meeting
with Governor Fine," he said.
Bender and Boudreau arrived

The'ttrip had cost them $10.75.
Said Bender:,"We'd do it again
