Penn Wins --
(Continued from vane one)
after the period started but field
goals by Don Scanlon and Bob
Brooks matched two shots by Ar
nelle. Herm Sledzik and Jack
Sherry tossed in fielders, closing
the gap to three points.
Arnelle pushed in another while
Brooks was making a foul. The
score stood at 52-50.
With a little over a minute to
go,Beck scored his only field
goal of the second half and iced
the game for Penn. Arnelle and
McMahan each tossed in a foul
before time ran out on the Lions
with Penn in the lead, 54-52.
Arnelle opened the scoring
shortly after the game got under
way with a one hand push shot.
But Tom Holt and Heylmun tal
lied fouls and .Beck tossed in a
field goal, to give Penn a 6-2
lead.
Arnelle kept the Lions in the
game the rest of the quarter,
scoring ten of State's 13 points.
After Arnelle narrowed the score
to 7-6. Ernie Beck and Heylmun
got hot and ran the score to 19-13
at the end of the first quarter.
The Quakers wasted no time in
building on their lead as the sec
ond period opened. Holt, Beck,
Brooks and Scanlon each netted
field goals before the Lions' Ed
Haag could score on a set shot.
Two more fouls by Haag sand
wiched between field goals by
llolt and Heylmun ran the score
to 31-16 in favor of Penn.
A quick field goal by Arnelle
and two by McMahan narrowed
the count to 31-22, but Scanlon
and Beck countered with fielders
and Penn left the court at half
time on the long end of a 34-22
score.
