Activities of professors at the College in the past few weeks have
ranged from participation in UNESCO meetings to the publishing of
articles.

College Adopts
New Military
Leave Policy
A new policy, on leaves for. Col
lege employees called for mili
tary training t duty has been
adopted, President:- Milton S.
Eisenhower lids announced.
The policy, approved by the
Board of Trustees: states that the
College tyill authorize military
leave? up to 15 days per year.
Tlie leave will be without sal
ary unless the military base pay
of the employee ,is less than-his
College salary would be for .the
same period. In these cases the
College: will pay the employee
the difference iii salary.
The employee may request that
his , entire absence for annual
military training duty be charged
to his accumulated Vacation time
rather than th& time granted him
as a leaVe if he prefers.
Trtie policy does not apply for
periods <St less than seven days.
If the training duty period ex
ceeds 15 days the additional time
may be charged to vacation time.
The policy does not apply to
employees recalled to extended
active dbty. More than a year ago
the College adopted a policy to'
cover, reservists recalled for ex
tended duty and personnel sub
ject to the Selective Service act.

The American Taxicab Associa
tion grant of $lOO will help to
support the motor vehicle fleet
supefvisor training program con
ducted by the Institute of Public

Association of the'Eastern States
to be held in 'New York, April
17 to 19.
Thomas A. Hopking Jr., speech
instructor, will present a report
on a study he and Professor
O’Brien have conducted.

Dr. Dagobert de Levie, assistant
professor of German, is the author
of an article, “Cotton Mather,
Theplogiari and Scientist,” pub
lished in the winter, 1961, issue
of American Quarterly.
Scheduled to participate in a
panel discussion on petroleum en
gineering education in New'York
City on Feb. 18 is Dr. John C.
Calhoun* professor and chief of
the division of petroleum and
natural gas engineering at the
College. This ,meeting will help
determine ways in which petro
leum engineering courses can be
strengthened in the nation’s col
leges,
Two former faculty members
are the subject of an article in the
January issue of the Dartmouth
alumni magazine. They are the
late Joseph M. Willard. and the
late Fred Lewis Pattee for whom
buildings on the campus have
been named.

Arthur W. Einstein, associate
professor of marketing and re
tailing, recently addressed Wil
liamsport merchants on “The Po
sition of the Retailer in Today’s

Granted a one-year leave of ab
sence by the College, Dr. Randall
S. Stout, associate professor of
public finance, has begun his
duties with the Illinois Depart
ment of Finance.
Dr. Harold K. Schilling, dean
of the Graduate School and pro
fessor of physics, recently pre
sided at a symposium at Barnard
College in New York as a part
of the 21st annual conference of
the American Association of
Physics. Teachers. ,
Zelko Named Chairman
Dr. Elton S. - Carter, assistant
professor of speech, is author of
“Defining Terms or Describing
Things?” recently published in
the General Semantics Bulletin,
a publication of the Institute of
General Semantics.
Harold P. Zelko, professor of
public speaking, has been re
appointed chairman of the Com
mittee on Adult Speech Educa
tion of the Speech Association of
America.
Dr. Leßaron, assistant
dean of the School of Home Ec
onomics, will assume her new
post as dean of the Division of
Home Economics at lowa State

Gets New Post
Huber to Head
Job Agency
John S. Huber, director of the
College dance band, has been
named assistant in charge of
student employment. He succeeds
Allan M. Reece, who left the post
to accept a position with the
Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co.
Huber took over the position
Feb. 1 after his selection was ap
proved by the College Board of
Trustees.
Huber received his M.A. in
music education Jan. 29. He was
active in Thespians, Phi Mu
Alpha, music honorary, and the
College dance band.
He has worked as ah arranger
and guitarist for Tommy Tucker,
an arranger for Paul Judge, and
an interior decorator. ,
He spent three - and -a - half
years with the. 46ist Bomber
Group of the Army Air Corps and
was awarded a presidential group
citation and an air medal with
three clusters.

Audition Dates Set
For Talent Show
Auditions for the All-College
Talent Show,' sponsored by the
Penn State Club, will be held
from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and
Sunday in the Little Theater, Ar
nold Gasche, show chairman, an
nounced yesterday.
The annual show is scheduled
for Feb. 22 at Schwab Auditor
ium.
Freshmen as well as upper
classmen may fill out application
blanks at the Student Union desk
in Old Main until noon Saturday,
Gasche said. Three cash prizes of
s2s', $l5, and $lO will be awarded
to the winners.
A meeting of. the club will be
held at 7 tonight in 411 Old Main
to name committees for the show
and to discuss show arrange
ments, Gasche said.

Textbook Published
The second edition of “College
Physics,” written by Dr. Robert'
L. Weber, Dr. Marsh W. White,
and Dr. Kenneth V. Manning, of
the Department of Physics, was
published last month by the Mc-
Graw Hill Book Co.
The text includes sketches of
Nobel prize winners in physics.
Some of the sketches are the work
of Milton S. Osborne, professor
and head of the' Department of
Architecture.
