Make Various
'52 Resolution
• As inevitable as taxes and death
are the_ long lists of New Year's
resolutions, which people, young
and old alike, compile. Often
times they do succeed in writing
out impressive lists of do's and
don'ts, but sticking to them seems
to be a different matter.
Hal.. Boyle, Associated Press
columnist, wrote recently of a
poll he had conducted among a
small group of women to deter
mine what resolutions, if any.
they make at the beginning, of a
New Year:
Contradictory Polls
The results of Mr. Boyle's poll
indicated, according to his inter
pretation, - that women are , too
secretive to .reveal •wliat resolu
tions they really' have made. Mr.
Boyle claimed that women, al
ways seeking to outrival men,
must of course make more reso
lutions than the "stronger sex."
He attributed the female's un
willingness to reveal the nature
of her resolutions to the fact that
admission would indicate that
there is room for improvement.
Mr. .Boyle's results were con
tradicted by the results of an
inforthal Daily Collegian poll con
ducted among members of both
sexes. The women queried were
altogether as cooperative as the
men.
One coed resolved not to burn
cigarettes; another not to get
pinned; and one voiced the uni
versal collegiate resolution to
study more • next semester than
she had during the present one.
Another coed resolved to finish
a pair of argyle socks which she
had started a year and a • half
ago. One prbmised to be faithful
—to her dairy.
Effort, Anyway
Women entered into a number
of resolutions made by men. One
fellow admitted it would be a
pleasure' to have women chasing
him, 1952 being leap year, rather
than having to chase them. An
other male, up in the clouds after
having become engaged over the
holidays, resolved never to get
engaged again. One resolved not
to get married this ,semester—un
less he could find a• woman who
was willing.
It seems that pinned couples
make resolutions, too. One fellow
talked his girl into resolving, to
give him a chance to explain why
he was late, instead of blowing
up first.
Resolutions, broken or•kept, are
really a wonderful thing.- They
give one that pleasant feeling of
"at least I tried."
