Fire Rules Forbid
Standing in Chapel
Fire regulations forbid stand
ing in chapel, Walter H. Wiegand,
director of the department of

Setting up additional chairs

bance and also violate regula

This announcement came in
answer to a student's telephone
conversation with President Mil
ton S. Eisenhower. The student
complained to the President that
he was turned away from Chapel
one Sunday morning because all
the regular sea t s were filled
when he arrived.
The Rev. Luther Harshbarger,
College chaplain, recommended
that chapel-goers come to Chapel
early in order to be sure of get
ting a seat. The ushers will do
everything in their power to seat
everyone, he said.

ing that the small amount mined
domestically is obtained almost
entirely from the Colorado pla
teaus.
These uranium mines are owned
by private individuals with two
exceptions, Dr. Glennan said.
All the mills used in processing
the ore are also privately owned.
In spite of the fact that the mines
are privately owned, they oper
ate under the stipulation that all
the ore mined must be sold to
the government, the AEC mem
ber said.
Contrary to common belief,
ore deposits are not rich in uran
ium, he explained. If two pounds
of pure uranium can be obtained
from a ton of ore, the commission
regards the ore as rich, he added.
The AEC was established al
most wholly for developing
at om i c weapons, the commis
sioner explained. Towards this
end over 6 1 / 2 billion dollars have
been spent since 1942. The corn
mission owns 3800 square miles
of land and plants in 24 states,
Dr. Glennan said.
