will speak on "The Responsibility
of a Land-Grant College for Gen
eral Education."
Dr. M. Nelson McGeary, presi
dent of the local chapter of the
American Association of Univer
sity Professors, sponsors of the
dinner, will preside. President
Eisenhower will introduce Dr.
Hannah. Music will be provided
by Hummel Tishburn and Frank
Gullo, Department of Music.
Some banquet tickets were
available yesterday at the Student
Union desk in Old Main.

Checker Club
Ties Clearfield
In First Game
The Penn State and State Col
lege Checker Club, unbeaten and
untied last year, was tied 2 1 / 2 to
2 1 / 2 by the Clearfield Checker
Club in the first game this year
played in the recreation room of
Hamilton Hall.
It was a five board match with
four games being played at each
board.
On board one, Dan Frank and
W. Swope, of - State, collaborated
to win over T.. R. ,Boyd of Clear
field. Theodore Yudacufski, presi
dent of State's club, defeated
Doyle lansberry of Clearfield for
State's two wins.
S. S. Skinner and 0. Haney of
Clearfield defeated State's Leon
ard Goodman and Robert 'Higa
shida on boards two and four.
Board five showed a draw as
"EL D. Achenbach, Clearfield, equa
lized State's George Romer and
James Broad.
Plans are underway to arrange
another• match with Clearfield at
Clearfield, Yudacufski, president
of State's club, announced yester
day. •
