One 'of three. excited coeds will be chosen Queen of the Harvest
Ball tonight for the first time in the history of the dance. The
queen, who •will be.chosen.by audience applause, will be crowned
with a, garland of roses during intermission: She will also be pre
sented with a trophy. The two-ru.nnerups will receive loving cups.
The three finalists, are Margie
Perry, Nancy Showers; and Alma
Street:;

Miss Perry, a 20-year-old- brun
ette from Highland Park, N. J.,
transferred to the Colle.ie from
Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio.
She is a second semester sopho
more, and is 'majoring in elemen
tary education.
Pink With White Net
The blue-eyed , coed,- whose pho-,
tograph was submitted by Alpha
Gamma Rho, has spent her sum
mers as .a camp counselor in New,
York, and as a resort waitress.'
Her hobbies include' music, swim
ming, and picnics. - •
Miss Perry will . wear- a . pink
taffeta gown with a white net
overskirt at tonight's dance.
Miss ShoWers, a 20-year-old
junior majoring in medical tech
nology, is the second finalist. In
her Williamsport High School
class, she was chosen by Bing
Crosby as one of the prettiest
girls. Last year Miss ShoWers
was Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.
Hospital Laboratory
Sponsored by the Rod and Coc
cus Club, Miss Showers is a mem
ber of Alpha Chi Omega. Last
year she • was secretary-treasurer
of the sophomore class.
During the summer, the blue
eyed blonde worked in a Wil
liamsport h o s•p i t a 1 laboratory.
Her hobbies include classical
music, bridge, and swimming. To
night she will wear a white satin
and net strapless gown.
Miss Street, the youngest final
ist, is an 18-year-Qld freshman
majoring .in liberal arts. This
blue-eyed brunette hails from
Cheltenham. This fall she re
ceived another beauty honor
when she was crowned "Queen
of Cheltenham."

Miss Street explained that the
occasion was the 260th anniver
sary of the Pennsylvania town
ship. The mayor of Cheltenham,
England, was present for the cele
bration, during which. Miss Street
was selected. queen.

was a, typist for Franklin Arsen
al: • Her hobbies include dancing,

Harvest Ball
To Have Queen;
Garden-Theme
Greenhouse plants' and ever
greens, encircled with a white
picket fence, : will transform .Rec
reatipn Hall into a garden for to
night's• Harvest Ball.
Green and gold will be the pre
dominant colors in the decora
tions for the semi-formal dance,
which will be held from 9 to-mid
night. Jack Huber's orchestra
will •provide the music.
Dr. W. C. Paddock, assistant
professor of plant pathology, will
be master of ceremonies for the
coronation of the first Queen of
the Harvest Ball. The dance is
sponsored annually by the Agri
culture Student Council.
Five student council presidents
have been selected to judge
audience applause, which will be
the,method used to determine the
queen• from three finalists. The
council presidents are Bryson
Craine,. Chemistry and' Physics;
Ralph Egolf, Education; Charles
Falzon, Engineering; Ed ward
Shanken, Liberal Arts; and Mil
lard Rehburg, Mineral Indus
tries.• •

Taps 14 Coeds
Fourteen women were tapped
yesterday by Cwens, sophomore
women's actiVities honorary. The
tappees are Peggy Crooks,' Sally
Fischer, Virginia Hinner, Linda
Jacobs, Jane Mason, Diane Mill
er, • Car olyn Pelczar, Patricia
Rile, Elizabeth• Stuter, Margaret
Troutman, Marian Ungar, Bar
bara Wallace, Barbara Werts, and
Nancy White.
The 14 sophomores and retiring
members of Cwens attended a
breakfast yesterday at McElwain
dining hall, at which the tappees
received gifts.
Requirements for membership
in Cwens are a 1.5 All-College av
erage and participation in at least
two major activities in the fresh
man-year. Before- the years when
coeds were sent to freshman cen
ters, tapping . for Cwens was done
in the second semester..ln recent
years.- tapping was postponed
until the. fall when women ar
rived on campus for their third
semester.
In order to choose new mem
bers while they are still fresh
man, according to the earlier pol
icy, Cwens will tap present first
semester freshman .this spring.
After initiation the new mem
bers will become active to re
place last year's retiring group.
