SATURDAY, iipy_EFT_3Ert E. IV.. The Lkinii Lciiir Looking a little ahead, the annual Penn State-Pitt contest looms as one of the best games in the country, next weekend. The two , . teams have a lot at stake'and the action is going to be hot and heavy.' The Panthers have had a dismal 'season, speaking in terms •of wins and losses'. Coach Tom Hamilton's squad has yet to win a game, although it is favored to cop its first victory this aftrnoon against West Virginia. However, its rec ord is no indication of the Pan thers' strength. They've played a man-sized schedule. Pitt has lost Indiana, Io w a Notre 'Dame. Michigan State and Ohio State. There's not a n easy, touch among them. The Panthers are going to be out to get State this year, e s pecially afte r' dropping a 21-f Lions in the fin. On the other hand, State, too, is going to be up for the an nual battle. Should State win today at Rutgers, it will give the Lions five wins against three losses. If they are to bet ter last year's mark of 5-3-1 they are going to have to take the Panthers over. Should State lose today, they will have to win next Saturday to keep from dropping below the' .500 mark. Coach Rip Engle's big problem is going to be setting up some sort of defense to Stop the Pan thers' ace passer Bobby Best wick. The Pitt quarterback went wild against mighty Michigan Rutgers (Colatinue from page six) • seems to have 'hit its stride. Last week, the Lions played their best game to date as they over whelmed a good- Syracuse team, 32-13. The Penn State coach will make only a few changes in the line up for today's contest. Two of these are on the defensive team and one on the offense. Either Don Malinak or Andy Silock will start in place of Bill Garrity at. defensive left end..Co captain Len Shephard will return to his linebacking position, re placing the injured Pete Schoder bek. Szajna at Quartirback On the offense, Ted Shattuck, Penn, State's leading g r own d gainer, will start at left halfback in place of freshman Buddy Row ell. Shattuck rolled up 64 yards in ten attempts last week against the Orange. Malinak and Joe Yukica will team up as the offensive ends, with Ed Hoover and Bill Hocket smith at tackles. Len Bartek and Don Barney will handle the of fensive guard positions while, Jim Dooley will do the 'centering. In the offensive backfield, Bob by Szajna, who played his best game last week, will start e the quarterback position. Shattuck and Bob Pollard will handle the halfback and wingback posts. Big Paul .Anders, who rushed for 87 yards against Syracuse, will start at fullback. Rutgers' Offense On the defense,' Malinak or Si lock and Jesse Arnelle will plaY the terminal positions, flanked at the tackles by Stew Scheetz and Roosevelt Grier. Freshman Don Shank will play at guard, with Shephard, Joe Gratson, and Bob Smith at the linebacking posts. Pollard and Keith Vesling will team at the halfbacks. Sophomore Don Eyer will play safety. - Rutgers will prabably line up offensively with Hal Corizzi and Russ Sandbloom at ends, Walt Fisher and John Schuck at tack les, Rudy Celigoi .and Errico Pa cilio at guards, Joe Ambrose at cent e r, Dreier at) quarterback, D'Amato and Ron 'Warner at half backs, and Monahan at fullback On the defense, Harmon, will probably start with• Jim Scott and- John Arthur at ends,' Joe Scaliotta and Howard Anderson at tackles, Frank Capraro and Mahlon Morrison at guards, Am brose and Howard. Ottley at the linebacking positions, Joe Triggs and Don Duncan at halfbacks, and La Prarie at safety. By ERNIE MOORE Collegian Sports Editor State, and he could cause , State all sorts 'of trouble. • In last season's game Best wick started hitting in the sec ond half and all but wiped out • State's 21-0 lead. Nick Bolko vac's miss of the last extra s point enabled the Lions to win: 21-20. The last frantic seconds of the game had Penn State fans chewing their fingernails right up to the elbow. As it looks now, this year's battle s hould be just as close. Both teams seem to• be stronger this season. But win or lose,-you can count on seeing a great foot ball game if you're lucky 'enough to be in Pitt Stadium next Satur day. And pl? , ase, s no snow!o Today's clash with Rutgers will be played near the site of the National Football Hall of Fame in New Brunswick. Al though the building 'is not fin ished, a lot of progress has been made on it. When it is fin ally completed it should be one of the greatest sports shrines in America. ' Hal Corizzi, offensive right end for Rutgers, is the same Mr. Corizzi who caused Elmer Gross' cagers a headache on the basket ball court last year. He is the Scarla's ace point /getter.. Dud finished seventh in the IC's last year, • but hasn't ap proached that level this season. Frosh Jim Hamill and Bob Roessler, sixth and seventh men on the team, round out the Lions' team. - A sidelight on the duel for top honors is that team favorite Army's coach, Nate Cartmell, coached the '27, '26, '27, '2B and '3O championships state teams.
