Movie, Dances Head
Recreation Program
The summer recreation •program under the direction of C. M.
"Dutch" Sykes continues this week with a full schedule of events.
Tonight there will be a movie, "A•Star is Born" starring Janet
Gaynor and Frederick March, on front campus at the Pugh street
gate. The show is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. In case
,of rain, the
film will be shown in Schwab auditorium.
Friday night there will be a dance at the TUB with music by
the Dukes from 9 to 12 p.m. The
admission charge is 50 cents. Sat
urday night a square dance is
scheduled at the TUB, also from
9 to 12 p.m. There will be no
admission charge for the square
dance,
The first group sing was held
last Monday night and a near
capacity crowd attended. Another
sing will be held this Monday at
Schwab auditorium at 8 p.m.
Artist Series
The second Summer Artist
Course will be Tuesday night. It
will feature the Leon Destine
Dance company'.
Sykes said that the Glennland
pool would continue its regular
swimming schedule. Mixed swims
are held every Tuesdays, Thurs
days, and Fridays from 8:30 to
10 p.m. and on Saturdays from
1 to 3 p.m.
He said that two summer soft
ball leagues had been formed and
started playing last night. There
are five teams in one league and
six teams in: the other league. All
games will be played on the golf
course field.
Sykes 'reminded students that
this Friday is the deadline for
entering golf and tennis -tourna
ments. Tennis players may sign
up for these tourneys at the ten
nis booth at the main gate of
Beaver ,field. Golf enthusiasts
may sign up for their tournament
at the caddy house. .

College Naval ROTC ,
Cadets Participate
In Training Program
The Coll e g e will be repre
sented in the Naval Reserve Of
ficers Training Corps program for
midshipmen to be held at Little
Creek, Va., tomorrow.
Training for the midshipmen,
who are known as NARMID-51
(Naval Reserve Midshipmen
1951), will consist of instruction
afloat in ships of ' the Naval
Amphibious Force, U. S. Atlantic
Fleet, and classes ashore the
Naval Amphibious Base.
The training will last for three
weeks with special emphasis on
craft work such as basic boat han
dling and gunfire support in an
amphibious operation.
In addition to the amphibious
training at Little Creek, the
NROTC student officers will re
ceive .a week of aviation indoe
trination training at the ,Naval
Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.

Twenty-four Signal Corps stu
dents • from Penn State are on a
six-weeks duty with the Reserve
Officer Training Corps at Fort
Monmouth, N. J.
They wil be commissioned in
June of 1952.
This group is part of a record
enrollment of 1300 cadets from
seventy-three colleges all over
the country. •
