Stickmen Win, 10-5;
Wilcox Sets Mark
t Captain Phil Benedetti, Lion goalie, was voted the George R.'
Pittenger Memorial award at the annual lacrosse banquet which was
held at the Eutaw House last night.
The, award is given annually to the man who is judged the most
improved player on the squad as well as the most valuable.
Also over the weekend, Jack
Wilcox established a new Penn
State individual scoring record
for a year when the State la
crosse team wound up its regular
season with a 10-5 triumph over
Cornell Saturday at Ithaca.
Wilcox Breaks Record
Wilcox, a strong candidate for
selection to the North-South all
star contest, tallied 20 goals to
,break the former record 18 set by
;cm Sullivan in 1946. Wilcox sent
sa, shot home just 3:55 after `the
match. had started to break the
record.' Wilcox' also scored an
'other goal later in• the game.
Paul Reffensperger also broke
the previous existing record when
he scored his lone goal of the
'game. 'Raffensperger's tally gave
him a total of 19 goals.
Another Penn State record
went by the books as the 10 Lion
tallies gives them a total of 101
Which surpasses the old record of
86 set in 1946.
Cornell Scores First
Cornell jumped off to a fast
1-0 lead after 0:27 seconds on a
shot by Tom Nuttle. State roared
back to tally four straight' shots
nand assume a commanding lead.
Penn State's scoring was even
ly divided. Besides Wilcox's pair
and Raffensperger's goal, "Doak"
Walker, Jim Reed, and Wayne
Hockersmith added two goals
each. Dick Rostmeyer accounted
for the final Lion tally.
The win for St ate was its
fourth in a row and its sixth of
the year against three losses.
The 6-3 log was the best for
a Nick Thiel team since 1946,
when his club won seven and lost
However, the 6-3 record
duplicated the season of 1948.

Colgate Net
Team Mauls
Stafe, 8-1
By JOHN
With Dick Gross and ageless
Gus Bigott registering the lone
point, Penn State's tennis team
was defeated 8-1 by Colgate on
the varsity courts, Saturday after
noon.
The victory—number 19 in 22
matches for the Red Raiders—
was almost the exact duplicate
of- last week's 9-0 conquest over
the locals.
Entering the final doubles
match with a commendable 8-0
lead, Colgate's intentions of
making it two shutouts in a row
over State were suddenly jolted
when the Nittany No. 3 combo of
Bigott and Gross scored several
aces to capture the event. The
twosome' stopped veterans Dick
Millar and Dick Heath, 6-4, 6-4.
Lust Downs Landon
For the second time in the past
two weeks, Captain Bill Lust was
a straight set winner over State's
Captain Owen Landon. His scores
were, 3-6, 4-6.
Sophomore sensation Ben Bis
hop topped Dick Wieland in
straight sets, 0-6, 9-11.
In the third singles fray vet
eran Bob Barker' took the mea
sure of Bill Aiken, 3-6, 6-8.
Davis Bows
After losing his first set,' 3-6,
Ed Davis came back to cop the
second set, 6-0, only to have let
terman Stew Bicknell take the
last set, 5-7.
Colgate's No. 5 man, Ed Stern,
won over Bill Wood, 6-3, 1-6, 0-6,
and Ted Stanton defeated Bigott,
1-6, 1-6.
In the doubles activity, State's
No. 1 and 2 combinations were
beaten in straight sets.
The Nittanies conclude their
season tomorrow, hosting Du
quesne University on the varsity
courts.
