Sun Dance
Retiring All-College President
Robert Davis, in keeping, with a
custom established last year, was
"sacrificed" before a roaring bon
fire to the sun gods as a part of
the sun dance ceremonies on the
lawn in front of Old Main Wed
nesday night. Davis was "seized"
from a joint social meeting of the
old and new cabinets at President
Eisenhower's home.
Athletic Awards
Preceeding the sun dance in

sented to members, coaches, and
managers of Penn State's three
outstanding varsity athletic

tional soccer championship, the

title, and the wrestling team, the
Eastern Intercollegiate wrestling
crown.
• Begun in 1947
The student sponsored awards
were begun in 1947 when they
were given to members of the
championship foo t b all team
which played in the Cotton Bowl
at Dallas, Texas.
They have been traditional
since then. The awards consist
of a miniature lion shrine mount
ed on a cherry base. They are
individually engraved.
Edward Shanken and Barbara
Sprenkle, co-chairmen of special
events for Spring Week, were in
charge of arrangements for the
Sun Dance ceremonies.
Alpha Chi Omega
The dancers, dressed in authen
tic Indian regala, were members
of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity.
They were Gene Myers, William
Burrows, Kirk Garber, Paul Sho
gren, Solomon Jaffe, Stanley Vitt,
George Allison, Hampton Huff,
John Smith, Stanley Rapp, Karl
Shilliff, and William Mikesell.
Ray Evert's orchestra played
for the starlite dance on the plaza
in front of Old Main.

to the College Mall.
At 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, south
of the Armory, the 112th Air
craft Control and Warning Squad
ron„ State College unit of the
Pennsylvania Air National guard,
will hold demonstrations of radar
equipment, picking up the flights
of Navy and Air Force planes
provided surrounding trees and
buildings do not interfere.
Series of films representing all
of the services will be shown
starting at 10 am. in the Armory.
There will also be a display of
Army, Air Force and Navy wea
pons and. equipment.
The Air Force will also have
a window display in the Com
merce Club window on West Col
lege avenue. The Arnold Air So
ciety of Air Cadets will carry on
a program for disseminating in
formation in town.
Marines Represented
Although the College does not
have Marines on the campus, Lt.
Col. Foley, associate professor of
naval science, with several Naval
ROTC cadets will represent them.
The Marine flag will also be rep
resented.
The route of parade will be
east on Pollock road to Short
lidge road; south on Shortlidge
road to College avenue; west on
College avenue to Burrowes road;
north on Burrowes road to the
tennis courts where the parade
will dismiss.

Picnic To Be Held
By DeMolay Club
Officers were elected and plans
made for a picnic at the last
meeting of the- DeMolay Club.
Next-semester's officers ar e
Thomas Farrell, president; Lewis
Hoover, vice-president; Donald
Cocher, secretary, and Melvin
Seifer, treasurer.
Members planning to attend
the club's picnic at Whipple's
Dam May 27 must sign up by
Thursday. The cost will be 50
cents per person and guests may
attend.

Players' Production
Starts Final Week
The Players' production of
George Bernard Shaw'S "John
Bull's Other Island" enters its fi
nal week-end at Center Stage to

College students who gradu
ated last January were given a
one-month postponement from
induction and about 2500 of the
25,000 graduates obtained essen
tial employment by the end of
the postponement, Hershey said.
"The rest were drafted," he
said.
The deadline for applying for
the Selective Service apptitude
test, originally set at May 15, was
extended to May 25. No reason
was given for the extension.
