Loyalty Oath- (Continued from page one) raised in All-College cabinet last semester. John Clark, a non member, demanded at the Sept. 21 meeting that cabinet recom mend such a. faculty oath to the board of trustees. Cabinet refused to take any action on the matter. Dean of Men H. K. Wilson said he then could see no reason for the oath, as did cabinet members Richard Bard, Marlin Brenner, and Huber Stevens. "It is a sad state of affairs when we must persecute the idealist in order to be practical politicians," said Leader. Challenges Effectiveness Th e effectiveness of the . bill was challenged by Allegheny Democrat Bernard B. McGinnis. "Such a law would never catch a single communist," he said. "It will serve only to offend some school teachers and other per sons conscientiously opposed to taking oaths." Other dissenting Democrats were Philadelphia's Anthony J. DiSilvestro and Martin Silvert, Allegheny's Elmer J. Holland, and Lawrence's Samuel G. Neff. Sen. Albert R. Pechan (R-Arm strong) sponsored the measure. •On campus, the Pe n n State chapter of the American Associa tion of UniVersity Professors so far has planned no action on the loyalty oath issue, Dr. M. Nelson McGeary, head of the group, said last night. The next regular AAUP meeting here is scheduled for April 18, he said.
