Plan Christmas
The Nittany-Pollock councils will hold their annual Windcrest
Children’s Christmas party from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Friday in the TUB.
Children of College students living in the Windcrest area were
invited to attend by council officials.
Santa Claus will be on hand
dren with gifts of candy and toys,
to one of the children.
Tentative plans of the councils
are to have recorded Christmas
music and games.
Invitations will also be extend
ed to the deans of the College
schools and several members of
the College administration.
,The Nittany-Pollock councils
have distributed collection jars
over campus and are asking stipr
dent support for the party. Con
tributions may be made at Stu
dent Union, TUB, PUB, Nittany
dining commons, and three wom
en’s dorms, Simmons, McElwain,
and Atherton.
Donations may also be made
through the mail to Pollock Cir-.
cle dorm 25, room 18. The drive
for funds will end at noon Friday.
Slavonic Club To Meet
Alpha Rho Omega, the Slavon
ic society on campus, is opening
its doors to all college students
interested in Slavonic culture,
song, and dance. A business and
activity meeting will be held
Sunday night at 7:30 in 304 Old
Main.

Dr. Wicke, Methodist Bishop,
Speaks In Chapel Tomorrow
Dr. Lloyd C. Wicke, resident
bishop of the Methodist church
in the Pittsburgh area, will speak
at the College chapel at 11 o’clock
tomorrow morning in Schwab
auditorium. The title of his ser
mon will be, “We Should Be
Growing Up.”
Dr. Wicke was born in Cleve
land, Ohio, and spent his under
graduate years at Baldwin-Wal
lace. He later got his B.D. degree
and his Ph.D. degree from Drew
Theological- seminary, Madison,
N.J. The honorary degrees of
D.D. and LL.D. were conferred
upon him by Bald win-Wallace
and Allegheny colleges. He also
had done post-graduate study at
New York university, Yale uni
versity, Columbia university, Sy
racuse university and at Union
seminary. New York.
As a member of the Newark
conference of the Methodist
church, Dr. Wicke served pastor
ates in New Jersey, before his call
to Mt. Lebanon Methodist church,
Pittsburgh. In 1948 he was elect
ed bishop of the Methodist church
assigned to the Pittsburgh area.
With only one more chapel ser
vice before Christmas vacation,
the College chaplain has announc
ed that the annual chapel choir
concert Of Christmas music will
be given twice: 11 to 12 o’clock
midnight, next Saturday night,
and next Sunday morning at the
regular chapel hour in Schwab
auditorium.
Magazine To Be
Named By Contest
A contest to name thie proposed
verse magazine which will appear
next semester was announced re
cently.
Closing date for the contest is
Jan. 15. A $5 prize will be award
ed to the winner. All entries
should be mailed to Mr. J. L.
Grucci, Department of English
Composition.
Judges for the contest are the
members of the E. Composition
13 class in poetry writing, who
initiated the movement for a mag
azine.

to escape my attention. I* studied
the blond sitting next to me. She

took the hint. I studied the menu
for possible clues. I didn’t find
any, but the hot roost beef sand
wich with mashed potatoes for 50c
looked good. I ordered one.
While I was eating the blond was
served an omelet hotplate at 65c.
I ordered one.
I was working on the omelet
and two vegetables when I noticed
the fellow to my left feasting on
some appetizing looking spaghetti
I had some, along with a submarine
sandwich. Then the aroma of fry
ing hamburgers reached my nost
rils. I was firm. I only had two
and a couple pieces of homemade
pie that I noticed in the case.
Downing my fifth cup of coffee,
I paid and walked back out onto
Beaver Avenue. I was exhilerated l
What observation! Hardly an item
had escaped my investigation!
I didn’t sleep well that night
I guess because the mystery was
still unsolved. Anyhow I was lay
ing there, moaning, when suddenly
I had the answer. Just one more
visit was all I needed. To be sure

lege, are attending the second an
nual Student Conference on Unit
ed States Affairs at the United
States Military academy in West
Point, N.Y., which ends today.
' “Problems and Objectives of
the 1950’5: the Far-Eastern Pol
icy for the United States,” was
the subject studied and discussed
at this year’s conference.
Keynoting the conference were
addresses by Lt. General A- M.
Gruenther, U.S. Army Deputy
Chief of Staff, and Dr. Edward
Earle. Dr. Joseph E. Johnson,
president of Carnegie Endowment
for International Peace, spoke to
the assembly at a banquet yes
terday.
The conference is sponsored
jointly by the United States Mili
tary academy and the Carnegie
corporation of New York.
