They defeated Beaver House, 1-0 in an overtime pulse stopper. - 'V. ' In the . fraternity wind-up* Sig ma;Nu, by-benefit of a last down pass; play from Mike kirschner to Kenny 'Weiss .to Earl Engie, squeezed out a thrilling, 1-0 tri umph over Phi Delta ; Theta to win -their second straight IM foot ball crown and remain unscored upoii , over that same two year period. : The first half of the indepen dent affair was marked by a 50- yard pass play maneuvered by the Be-To’s which wound up on the Beaver’s 12 yard line. But here' the Beavers held on downs, and began a drive of their own, only to be stopped the same way;, on the Be-To 40-yard stripe. With a minute and a half to go, John Sarikianos caught a touch down pass from Tom Byrne, a real standout all evening, but the ref eree ruled that ten men 'were on the field, and the counter was nullified. Jack Badger, Beaver house, ran and passed well for the losers, but in the overtime-his passes couldn’t click, and the eon test ended with the pigskin two yards in the Beaver’s territory.. V The Sigma Nu victory was one of the closest of the year. The Phi i Delts, after their third play: in overtime, had the ball fifteen yards on Sigma Nu ground when the tri-pass materialized just a few yards over the 50, and turned an almost certain defeat into a well earned win. PENNSYLVANIA Sigma Pi Wins IM Basketball Opener, Defeats DTS, 39-9 Sigma Pi, led in the scoring column by Mather and Lockhart with seven points apiece, took their first step forward in their quest for their second straight IM court title by crushing an out-manned Delta Theta Sigma outfit, 39-9. In other opening round contests in the fraternity loop, Theta Chi put on a rush in the final period to edge by Alpha Zeta, 17-12. Pi Kappa Alpha had a tough fight on their hands throughout their con test with Theta Xi, but pulled away in the final minutes to de feat the Thetas, 22-14. Omega Psi Phi also ran out of gas in the clos ing minutes of play as Sigma Phi Alpha led by big Don Mercer eked out a 16-13 triumph. Other battles saw Phi Kappa Tau never headed as they trounced Lambda Chi Alpha, 24-8.
