2500 Attend Open House
At New Men's Dormitories
About 2,500 circulated through . the lounges of the West dormi
tories Sunday afternoon at the first open house ever held in the new
structures.
Invitations were sent to all campus women - and about 150 ad
ministration officials and campus dignitaries last Wednesday by the
Leonides-Panhel-WSGA-WRA-Wesf dorms social committee, a semi
permanent • group •• organized to
run the affair.
Over half the women accepted
the invitations. Mogt of the of
ficials and dignitaries also _came
to the open house..
President Eisenhower was in
vited but 'was unable 'to attend
because of. the illness of his wife.
Lounges and •recreation rooms
in Hamilton, Thompson, . McKee,
and Irvin halls were open for in
spection. Two combos made up of
members of the AIM band pro
vided music in two of the
,dorms.
Pianists provided background
music in the other lounges. Re
freshments, cider and cookies
were served in the recreation
rooms.
A special traffic committee' of
20 women and 20 men were .on
hand to guide and circulate the
crowd. The dorm floor presidents
formed a receiving line, at the en
trance to each of the lounges.
Betty Loux Serves
On Convention Panel
Betty Loux, a sophom6re in
the School of Home Economics
minoring in journalism, served
on the art division panel of the
Central Convention of School
People meeting at Lock Haven
Friday, Oct. 6.
Experience as editor of the
Swarthmore center paper and art
editor of her high school paper
served as background for ques
tions she answered related to co
ordination of art in high school
and college publications.
Penn Haven Club
Alpha Xi Delta was recently
entertained by the Penn Haven
club at the group's house.

Red Cross Class
Opens Tomorrow
The American Red Cross class
in first aid will meet in 113 Frear
Lab at 7 p.m. Wednesday. This is
the last opportunity to enroll.
The class, a basic course in red
cross including treatment of ato
mic boinb victims, meets once
each week for a total of twenty
hours. The instructor is Mrs. Amy
Kerstetter. An American Red
Cross Standard Certificate is giv
en at thecompletion of the course.
Students with the standard cer
tificate may continue for the ad
vanced and instructors certifi
cates, which may be reached by
spring.
There is no charge for the
course.
Zeta Tau Alpha
Zeta Tau Alpha recently enter
tained Sigma Pi at the Sigma Pi
house. Square dancing provided
the entertainment.
The sorority had a slumber
party in their suite for the new
pledge class.

cause of forfeits.
Ping pong competition begins
tonight. Gamma Phi Beta will
oppose Delta Delta Delta, and Al
pha Xi 'Delta will meet Kappa
Delta at 6:30 o'clock.
West Atherton and East Ath
erton will , play at 7:15 o'clock
along with Women's Building
and Leonides. At 8 o'clock, units
1 and 2 of McAllister hall will
compete and also teams from
Simmons and McElwain.

New pledges of Delta Zeta en
tertained the pledges of Zeta Tau
Alpha at a pajama party in the
Delta Zeta suite room in Sim
mons hall.
Pledge officers of Delta Zeta
are Emily Knobloch, president;
Thea Machamer, secretary; and
Marjorie Maxwell, treasurer.
