Active Frosh Women Eligible
For Cwens, Soph Honorary
On the, basis of leadership; scholarship and participation in ac
tivities, girls are chosen for membership in Cwens, national sopho
more honbrary which functions as a service, unit to the College.
Girls are tapped during the spring semester of their Freshman
year. For the last few years, because of the College farm-out system,
girls were tapped during the fall semester of their sophomore year
on the basis of work done at their
respective colleges and partibi
pation in campus 'activities their
first semester here. A 1.5 all=
college average is required.
National Conyentiori
This year Cwens' , bi-annual
national convention will be held
at the College November 3,4, 5.
The society was founded at the
University of Pittsburgh June 4,
1937.
The Dungaree Drag, a girl-ask
bOy affair, is sponsored by Cwens
each year in the fall: Last year
the girls sold tags for scholar
ships and to support an orphan,
and entered a float in the Spring
Carnival. Cwens and Chiines 'co
operate in the orientation of all
new women students.
Approximately 25 girls are
tapped each year. After their ini
tiation they become the function
ing service group while the pre:
vious members retire as alumnae.
