PAGE FOUR 'No Moola ($) No Boob' Rogel Answers Steelers An anxious Franny Rogel is not straying very far away from a telephone these days as he awaits the word that will send him into action for the Pittsburgh Steelers this fall in the National Professional Football League. But that word—said to involve a high four-figured sum has been mighty hesitant in coming. Still playing the part of a poker-faced chessman waiting for his opponent's next move, Ro gel remains adamant in his deci sion not to pursue a football ca reer in professional circles unless his request for a salary increase is met by the Steelers. Reliable estimates have the Steeler front office willing to go up to $5OOO, whereas the Nittany star from 1946 through '49 is re ported to be demanding $6OOO smackers. However, calm he ap pears on the surface, • Punchy, nevertheless, admits that he's like a horse balking at the reins at the thought of a football 'season ap proaching without him playing. Last week Rogel met .with the club's General Manager, John D. Holahan with no success. Says Franny: ' "I was willing to talk busi ness, but they wouldn't meet my price and I am certainly THE CIGARETTE PUTS THE PROOF OF MILDNES S SQUARELY UP TO YOU... Regardless of the Steeler pleas, Rogel remained unreconciled. He is determined to receive a price he feels—as one of the leading backfield men in the East for the past three years—he has the right to demand. Meanwhile, matters are coining to a head in the jittery Steeler camp where Johnny Papach, Coach Johnny Ailichelosen's full back sparkplug last year, still has not inked his signature to a Pittsburgh contract. So anxious appear the Western Pennsylvan ians to affix Rogel's name to a contract in order to fortify them selves. that they had called for another conference Saturday.
