Bair, who won his third straight without a loss. was re lieved by Jim Mastic°la in. the ninth when the Orange rallied for three runs. Owen Doughterty, 'Jack Kurty, and Harry Little combined to save the first game for the Nit tanies. Little's home run in the eighth with none on turned out to be the winning marker. Syra cuse turned two walks, two errors, a double, and a triple into four runs in the ninth to place the winning run on third. Kurty tried to get Ken John son stealing and Joe Tocci let the ball through. Johnson broke for home but Doughterty heaved to, Kurty who tagged out the run ner and .squelched the rally. Gunnett had a no hitter going in the second game until the fifth when four straight hits ac counted for the Orange's three runs in the abbreviated nightcap. Gehrdes Paces Lion Cindermen To Ist Win •• Captain Jim Gehrdes led the Way as the Lion track team won its first home meet of the sea son, Saturday, bowling over Navy by a '75% to 55% count. ~Jumpin' Jim garnered three firsts and a second place tie to place in every event he entered. His wins came in the high and low hurdles and the' 100 yard dash. He tied •for second in the high jump. There were several pleasant surprises for Coach Chick Wer ner's Nittany team. In the jave lin soph Ted Roderer came up with a heave of 206 feet 8 inch es to capture the event and ful fill the promise he had pre viously shown. The State men ,in the shot put all threw their best distances of the year. Newcomer Dudley Foster upset the dope by winning the' two-mile run.
