Tennismen Top Bisons
For First Road Win
Penn State's net team won• its first away contest of the
season Monday as it scuttled Bucknell's tenniseers, 6-3, at
Lewisburg. The match was a replay of the rained-out contest
originally scheduled for April 19.
The marathon lasted four and one-half hours before the
outcome was decided. With the approach of darkness the
Bison management was forced
to turn on the floodlights for
the last • few matches.
,Captain Owen Lsnaon captured
State's first point with a 6-3, 6-3
win over Gray Rogers.
Wieland Takes Match
Number two swinger, Dick Wie
land, downed the Bison's Drew
Matieson, 6-1, 8-2; Jim Howells
swept through the third match by
rallying for a 5-7, 8-6, 642 victory
over Jack Koch; Mark Borland,
after injuring his ankle in the
opening set; also surged to defeat
Bill Reitz, 6-8, 6-4, 7-5.
, .The first /3ucknell point was
scored in the fifth match as Nick
Schloeder won a thrilling triumph
from Spence Boyer, 5-7, 6-2, 4-6,
and 'Di Davis, number six, drop
ped his game to Jack Purnell, 6-1,
5-'7, 1-6.
The racquetnien entered doubles
competition leading Bucknell, 4-2.
Wieland' and Howells, Lion num
ber one doubles combo, sewed up
the match for their squad by
trouncing Rogers and Mathieson,
6-1; 6-3, and number two duo,
Landon and Davis, garnered point
'six by decisioning Koch and Reitz,
6-2,-8-6;

Family,. a JV netter who was
forced to play for the injured Bor
land;t and Boyer dropped their

Monday's fraternity intramural
softball action saw Sigma Alpha
Epsilon top Sigma Nu, 4-2, and
Sigma Chi slam Pi Lambda Phi,
15-8, in first flight play.
Delta Chi took a 9-0 forfeit
game from • Phi Sigma Kappa 'in
a second flight contest. Indepen
dent action saw A.S.C.E. whip the
Royal Knights, 94.
In other games last week, Del

Epsilon Pi, 6-0 : to chalk up the,

ball, playoffs this week as they
swept past Sigma Nu-A, two
time champions, by scores of 7-

The past weekend marked the
begihning of second round play
in the intramural soccer tourna
ment with four games on Friday
night and four more Monday.
Friday night saw Phi Kappa
Tau edge Sigma Alpha Mu, 1-0,
with Tom Strauss scoring the
lone' goal and Pi Kappa Phi de
feat Theta Kappa Phi 2-0, Dick
Siedel and Dick Blythe sharing
the Scoring honors.
Alpha Phi Delta eased by Chi
Phi 1-0, in another close game,
with Tony Lordi scoring the
goal, while Phi Sigma Kappa won
by forfeit over Alpha Tau Ome
ga.
In Monday night games, Delta
Upsilon also took a forfeit win,
.this one from Sigma Phi Alpha,
while Phi Gamma Delta eked
out a close victory over Sigma
Chi by virtue of Darlington's
penalty kick.
Phi Epsilon Pi, which won its
first' round game in an extra
period, continued to win the
