WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26, 1950 Shades of Joe Page— Tkac To Hurl Again A 1 Tkac will pitch again when the State diamond men meet Washington and Jefferson on Beaver Field this after noon at 4 p.m. Tkac will try to put the Lions back in the win column and bring this season’s record to three and two. The Nittanies now have a .500 average with wins over Westerh Maryland and Temple and losses to Rut gers and Bucknell. Coach Joe Bedenk’s plans call for the same team that fin ished the Bucknell game to start today. CHANGES EXPECTED Changes later this week, when the team travels to Washington for two games with Georgetown, and next week, with four games in three days, are in the offing. Sophomore lefty Bill Hopper, who at present is in centerfield, will probably get, his first chance on the mound next week. Vet eran hurler Bill Bair should also see service. Either Stan Lagonosky or Bill Ondick, both returning lettermeri, will replace Hopper in the out field if he takes a turn on the mound. Wieland Lost For Prexie Till Coach Sherman Fogg’s tennis squad will seek their second straight victory this afternoon at 4 p.m. when they meet Washing ton and Jefferson on the Beaver Field Courts. Coach Fogg will present an al most completely revamped lineup against the Presidents. One change was necessitated by the loss for this • match —of Dick Wieland, Nittany No. 2 man, who pulled a leg muscle during Satur day’s 6-3 win over Lehigh. Owen “Sonny” Landon, Lion captain, will remain in his num ber one lot, but Jim Howells will move from position three to num ber two, and Mark Borland will slip into the vacated third spot from number five. Harry. Kauf mann, a newcomer to the starting array will play at number four with Bill Walls at number five and Spence Boyer at the sixth slot. Coach Fogg’s doubles lineup has also been revised, with three un tried duos being inserted. Valentino will succeed Joe Mir enzi, who took over in mid-season after Mike Kurowski became in eligible. The little tumbler was one of the outstanding members of Coach Gene Wettstone’s team this season. He took first places in his event in every dual meet but one and won the Eastern Intercollegi ate Tumbling title. Jack Wetzel was also named head manager at the banquet. Jean Kronstadt, junior gymnas tics champion of Findland, now an exchange student at Mercers burg, was the guest speaker. Letters were also awarded to all members of the team who com peted in dual-meets this season. Men receiving varsity letters for the 1950 season were David E. Benner, Donald F. Kump, Glen C. According to Navy Coach Boh Williams, his team is expected to win a good percentage of its games “despite one of the tough est schedules in collegiate golf.” “We have a good team again this year,” says Williams. “We will be almost as strong as last season when we won 11 and lost two.” State’s linksmen, led by Captain Tom Smith and Ted Robertson, are sporting a record of two wins and one loss.
