The College was aware of his New York activities when he Was hired last Fall and Morse told him then that the Stuyves ant Town affair did not concern the College, Lorch stated. Lorch had been recommended for reappointment by Orrin Frink, head of the math depart ment. Last year he was dismiss ed from a similar position at City College of New York, with no official reason given. His statement hinted that Met ropolitan Life Insurance com pany, which owns Stuyvesant Town, had interevened to pre vent his reappointment here. The AAUP is investigating and has stated that reappoint ment should be considered on the basis of Lorch's qualifica tions, not the issues he supports. Lorch's statement said that a committee might be set up to work for his reappointment and thus prevent possible blacklist ing of the College by the AAUP. Mother, may I go out to swim?
