Open Weekend Card
Princeton's wrestling team visits State College tomorrow to
close the Nittany 1950 mat season. The Lion-Tiger battle will start
at 2 p.m. in Rec Hall, the initial activity of Penn State's final big
spoke weekend.
Coach Bill Gutternon's swimmers will also see
afternoon. The State tankmen meet Virginia at
Glennland pool. Tomorrow night, I

out with Virginia's ringmen in
Rec Hall at 7 o'clock, followed by
the court clash between the Lions
and Georgetown's basketballers

Wednesday night the Nittany
passers were dealt their tenth
loss as West Virginia came
through with a hotly-contested
59 to 56 win at Morgantown. The
Mountaineers had entered the
game with a record of never
having, been beaten by a Penn
State basketball team on their
home floor.
The Lions were severlir handi
capped through the. inability, of
,Guard Marty - Costa to play up: to
his usual form against the Vir
ginians.
Costa had been averaging about
14 pcints per contest over a 21-
game route but prior to, the game
theNittany co-captain contracted
a heavy head cold while playing
in New York. He was held to a
single field goal before fouling
out with 11 minutes to go,.
STATE 'BLOWS' 'LEA D
With 10:15 remaining, in the
final half, Penn State held a 50
to 43 advantage, the widest mar
gin either team could muster all
evening,
The Mountaineers started bang
ing away at the Lions' lead, finally
tying the score at 50-all on a
peep shot by Joe Duff and Dave
Steindler's free throw. The Lions
scored with 7:18 remaining and

the count at 52-all but Moore's

Moore set the 'pace for both
teams with 21 points followed by

paced the Nittanies with 7 field
goals and 2 foul conversions for
16 points. Ted Panoplos and Lou
Lamie each produced 12 tallies
and Joe Tocci captured 10.
Gymnasts To Depart
Penn State's gymnastics corps
takes off at 1 o'clock this after
noon for Temple and the last
dual-meet of the Nittany sche
dule. The meet will also be the
last dress rehearsal for next
week's Eastern Intercollegiates.
The Lions will take their usual
underdog role tomorrow. Temple,
with a strong and well-balanced
team, has been defeated by only
Army and Syracuse this season;
the Owls downed Navy, Delaware
aid West Chester.

Fritts, Coach Chick .Werner has
chosen Wil Lancaster ' and the
mile relay team to run for the
Nittany thinclads. Wil, who fin
ished fourth in last week's IC
meet, will go in the, dashes..
The veteran sprinter will also
run a leg of the mile relay. His
mates on the eight furlong run
will be Bill Lockhart and Guy
Kay and either Gehrdes or new
comer Bill Polito. The mile relay
team set a new Penn State in
door record of 3 minutes 22 sec
onds in the New York A.C. meet.
Ex-Lions Curt Stone and Ho
race Ashenfelter have a busy
weekend ahead of them. They
will run in a special two mile at
the Heptagonal meet in Boston
on Friday night, and at the
Knights of Columbus meet Sat
urday. On Monday the former
Nittany tracksters will go to Mon
treal, Canada and once again
Stone will run the two mile and
Ash the Mile.
