Eisenhower Spends Busy Day

Dr. Eisenhower was pictured
during the day greeting various
students, and having a milkshake
with several coeds. The latter
stemmed from an earlier promise
by the president-elect to the en
tire student body: "We might
have that milkshake together—
but please, a literal one!"
Policy Stand
Queried by about 20 press rep
resentative,s from the ' College,
town and state, Dr. Eisenhower
parried several questions about
major policies with the statement
that he was not prepared to speak
on such matters until • after he
takes up. residence as the Col
lege's chief executive in July,
However, he did point out gen
erally that "an educational insti
tution's foundation is integrity,
and that integrity should be evi
dent in all branches of the insti
tution.". This was prompted by a

an amateur basis as much as pos
sible," 'he said. ,
Concerning ihis reported
"open door" policy of being
available often to see and talk
with students at Kansas State.
he indicated that he • would
carry that policy with hiTn as
much as possible when he
switches colleges. "As long as I
had the time and strength to
continue. I wouldn't refuse
someone who wants to see me."
He. added fuel to nation-wide
speculation about a possible
sports relationship between Penn
State and Columbia, where his
brother Gen. Dwight D. Eisen
hower is president, by remarking,
"I think that would be pretty
good!" .
Pointing out that he "loves ath
letids," Dr. Eisenhower kidded:
"I read in the papers that all

this year. The next day I found
a clipping to that effect in my
office, with a note attached, 'Will
you reconsider now?' "
Dr. Eisenhower, who will de
liver 42 addresses between now
and the•end of June, said he does
not think he will be able to return
to the College until he arrives
permanently in July.
Keen Knowledge
He displayed a keen knowledge
of the College and many student'
organizations and activities.
Observing that the Engineering
School was located near .the presi
dent's home on campus, Mr.
James Milholland, chairman of
the Board of Trustees, struck a
cheerful note that permeated the
entire press conference by joking
to Dr. Eisenhower:
"The engineers are a noisy lot
and the architects may keep you
up nights by burning the lights
long. But you'll get used to them."

elect of the College, who spoke to them briefly while here for a
