, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1949 Morgan Upsets DeLaval In Quarter-Final-Bout John Morgan, Alpha Chi Rho, a stocky, hard-hitting light heavyweight produced intramural boxing's biggest upset of the sea son by gaining a decision victory over Alpha Tau Omega's Jerry DeLaval in a 175-pound quarter-final battle before 450 in lice Hall last night. ; Charley Wilson. Alpha Gamma Rho, and Fred Shihadeh, Phi Kappa Sigma, gained quarter final victories by the TKO route. Other quarter-final winners on the eight-bout program were Vince Sakovitch, Kappa Delta Rho: Milt Nemeroff, Phi Sigma Delta, and. Jack Long, Sigma Chi. Warren Cooper won an inde pendent guar t e r-final. bout, while Ed Rohrbeck was victori ous in an independent semi-final, tussle MORGAN WINS DeLaval, who looked like one of the best boxers to step into .an IM ring this season in his only previous appearance, never could get started. He landed a left and right to the head in the first, but Morgan came back in the second with a stinging straight left and right to the head. DeLaval, who missed badly, throughout, was overanxious in the third round. He landed sev eral hard rights mid lefts to the head, but Morgan traded evenly with him and kept him off with his left. Wilson,. another good-looking 175-pounder, stopped Russ Tap tich, Theta Xi,• at 50 seconds of the third round. Wilson\ took the fight out ' of • his man • with 'a thundering right •uppercut..to the head, followed in rapid order by two hard lefts and ..a solid Aright to the head.
