Glee Club Lists
Seven-Stop
Concert Tour
Appearances in seven cities in
western Pennsylvania, New York,
and Ohio have been scheduled by
the Penn State Glee Club for its
1950 spring concert tour, Director
Frank Gullo announced recently.
The group will open its itiner
ary in Johnstown .March 17 and
move on to Indiana, Pa., March
18. After a brief return to cam
pus, the club will take to the
road on March 27 to present a
program in Erie. This will be
followed by concerts •in Greens
burg March 28, Cleveland, Ohio,
March 29, Buffalo, N.Y., March
30, and the closing performance
in Ridgway,' Pa., March 31.
Penn State .Alumni Clubs in
each of the cities visited by the
Glee Club will sponsor the con
certs, with the exception of
Cleveland. There the perform
ance will be sponsored by a ser
vice organization.
Features Quartet
The Glee Club, now in its 59th
year, was organized in 1891 and
consisted of 12 members. Since
that time it has grown steadily
until it now boasts 120 members.
A regular part of the organization
is the varsity quartet which com
pleted its 47th season this spring.
The quartet, composed of Rich
ard Goodling, Maynard Hill, Ed
ward Raffensberger, and Charles
Sullivan, will present special
numbers at each concert.
A successful eastern tour' was
made this past spring with the
group appearing at the Philadel
phia Academy of Music where
it was favorably received by
critics. The club also made a
guest appearance on Fred War
ing’s radio program.
Blue Key Boosts
Hospitality
Blue Key, national honorary
hat society, has recently made vis
iting athletic teams feel more at
home while at State.
Through the publication' of a
booklet entitled “Welcome To
Penn State,” the organization has
set up a guide for the use of those
unfamiliar with the College. The
booklet includes briefs on the
school, its foundation, enrollment,
and administration. It also con
tains a sketch on the Athletic As
sociation and a directory which
lists the addresses and phone
numbers of the fraternities, dor
mitories and town houses.
In addition to this service. Blue
Key has made further plans to
accommodate the visiting teams.
These plans include the inaugu
ration of a hostess system, where
by incoming teams would be pro
vided with meals at fraternity
houses, passes to athletic events,
and access to other campus ac
tivities.
To be eligible for service under
the Hostess system, the. teams
would merely get in touch with
the manager of their particular
sport at the College and advise
him of the expected trip. The
manager would • then meet with
Blue Key and make arrangements
for the stay of the team.
