West Chester to Provide
Booters Strong Opposition
North Caroline and West Chpster,Teachers College are two new
soccer aggregations that the Lion, booters will encounter in their 1940
schedule.

Lions played a total of 118 games,
winning 84 and losing but 15. The
average score ,per game 'during
that era was 3.3 to the opponents

"The war years were pretty
hard on our record.'," says , Jeffrey,
"in• the' 17-year Stretch fr0m:1926
to -1941., we only lost .six games
while in the five years between
1941 and 1945 we lost nine times.'?

sical education for men, an
nounced that all incoming stu
dents with sophomore .standing
must take at least two semesters
of physica, education.
Veterans will be exempted
if their. discharge occurred
after April L 1947.
All students with four coin
pleted semesters at another insti
tution are also exempted from
taking, the phys ed requiretnent.
Non-Vet Sophs
All non-veteran sophomores
must, take a swimming. test dur
ing Orientation Week. Those who
fail their aquatic exam will be
required to schedule swimming
for three hours a week until able
to pass the required standards.
The School of Physical Educa
tion encourages all incoming
male students to try out for var
sity sports. • •
Students trying for a varsity or
junior varsity sport arc automa
tically exempted 'from all physi
cal education classes.
All sophomore students who
fall under .the phys ed ruling
this fall should include gym
shoes, socks, supporter, T-shirt
and sweat .suit in their equip
ment.
Each male student who is en
rolled in a physical education
class must obtain a towel and
basket deposit card at the Bur
sar's office in Old Main. The card
costs $2. This money is refunded
at the end of the year if the stu
dent returns' the towel and lock
to the stock room in Rec Hall. .
This ticket also entitles the stu
dent to free towel service all sea
son as well as the use of athletic
equipment in Rec HalL
GAME TIME
The Penn State—Villanova
football game will start' at 2
p.m. Saturday afternoon. • Up
perclass students will be ad
mitted to the' game upon pre
sentation of matriculation cards
at the ,gate. Freshmen and
sophomores will be admitted
upon presentation of. athletic
