Sitting Pretty?
TO THE EDITOR: In reply to Mr. Ralph E.
Spiker's letter "Means and Ends" I would like to
say this.
First of all, before you go blowing your stack
I suggest that you find out all about the principles
and policies of the R.O.T.C. training program.
Secondly, look at the reasons for our taking
R.O.T.C. from this point of view. If there should
be a business depression when we graduate from
college, I think that a person with a second lieu
tenant's commission in the army would be sitting
pretty, without any worries about food, clothing,
and board. Another consideration is the fact tliat
the 90 cents per day adds up to $27.90 per month
which is a big help to us veterans.
Thirdly, those of us taking advanced R.O.T.C.
and receiving 90 cents per day are with few ex
ceptions all veterans of the last war. I myself spent
almost three years as a low down buck private in
the infantry and 25 months of that was spent over
seas, so we know what we're doing. I might add
that in R.o.ir.c. we are taught not how to mass
murder, but to do things in .such a way as to re
ceive the least number of casualties to ourselves.
In closing I might say that in the event of 'an
other war Mr. Spiker, if you were drafted, in your
basic training or boot camp you would be taught
what we are now being taught or have already
gone through.
Mr. Spiker, I suggest that you read the "Com- ,
munist Manifesto" then make your comments as
to your feelings on the R.O.T.C. as it is taught and
practiced.
Proof That Someone Cares
TO THE EDITOR: It has been said, by a Euro
pean, that a billion dollars in relief sent by the
U.S. government cannot do the good that a million
dollars sent directly by the people could. The
reason is obvious. While the government may be
suspected of all sorts of imperialistic schemes and
war-making designs, none but the best motives

nars sponsored by the National
Intercollegiate Christian Council
will be conducted in Washington,
D.C., March 28 to 30, April 10 to
12, and April 24 to 28. The pur
poSe of the seminars is to promote
a better understanding of the pro
cess of federal government and to
prepare students for effective
Christian citizenship.
Agenda
Planned trips and tours with
visits to Senate and House com
mittees' hearings, the legislative
chambers, Supreme Court, the De
partment of State etc., comprise
the agenda of the seminars, along
with discussions to evaluate and
consolidate the findings of the
tourists.
The local PSCA chapter hopes
to assemble an enthusiastic group
to fill a bus to attend the third of
these seminars.

seminars to be held at Lake Suc
cess, N.Y., April 12 to 15, April 24
to 26, and June 26 to 28, with the
purposes aligning those of the
"Meet Your Government" semi
nars on an international plane.

For Annual Drive, April 4-9

campus World Student Service Fund committee is making final
arrangements for its annual drive, April 4 to 9. A goal of $34/00
has been set.
Of this sum, $2400 will be used to buy books for students in
the Philippines, and the remainder will go into WSSF's fund for
emergency use

On Saturday night from 10-11 more than 1000
radio stations will carry the "ONE GREAT HOUR"
program, a non-sectarian, interdenominational,
joint Catholic-Protestant effort to collect $10,000,-
000 for world relief. As a foreigner I am convinced
that America can say more to the world through
efforts like these, than all the jet planes and air
lifts and atomic bombs.
Here, then is the chance for everyone to prove
himself. You who have shouted proudly about the
"American way of life" —here's the test; you
columnists, party-liners, progressives who care so
greatly for the working man, what are you going
to do about this one great hour. And you who
call yourselves Christians Baptists, Presbyter
ians, Catholics, Methodists will you'some day
be able to say "When saw we thee hungry and
fed thee? or thirsty and gave thee drink? . . . a
stranger and took thee in? or naked and clothed
thee?"

be extremely grateful to the "onlooker" who so
obligingly explained the shattering of Rea and
Derick's glass door for his technical assistance in
developing new Methods of manufacturing plate
glass,
Certainly he doesn't lack originality. Maybe the
Atomic Energy Commission or the Air Forces
would be interested in his process for making air
glass bombs.
If he has any spare time next semester, we

up the process for the manufacture of "Herculite"

Dr. Howard M. LeSourd, dean of the Boston University School
of Public RelationS, will lecture on "A Christian Looks at Palestine,"
at Hillel Foundation, 8 p.m. Sunday. This meeting is open to the

LeSourd is an educator, author,
and student of national and in
ternational
affairs as well as of
religious and social problems.
For 12 years he served as dean
of the Boston University Gradu
ate School.
He was a member of the White
House Conference on Child
Health and Protection in 1930. As
director of the Institute for Dem
ocratic Education, the lecturer
produces the recorded "Lest We
Forget" programs of radio and
screen.
The distinguished educator or
ganized the Boston University
Radio Institute and has pioneered
in the work of using radio in
