A feeling for the eerie and weird aspects of the story is combined with a profound un derstanding of human nature to breathe life into every scene. Admirable Performances Not one individual perform ance falls below average, and the play abounds in strikingly por trayed roles. Highest honors go jointly to Dianne Scuderi and Richard Evans as the ill-fated lovers. Evans, although a new comer to Players, meets Miss Scuderi's versatility and range of expression admirably. Equalling the principals in nat ural portrayal are the multitude of minor characters who empha size the awe and Mar of the su pernatural of the uneducated but pious people of the valley. Dan Wargo as the soul-saving preacher, June Williams as Bar bara's tormented mother, and Robert McLean as her father stand out as particularly natural and appealing in their minor roles. But there is scarcely a por trayal among the villagers that cannot be called inspired.
