PAGE FOUR Women Riflers Spark Season With 13 Wins, Only One Loss Women's rifle team has sparked the season with 13 wins to one loss. Six matches of rifle telegraphics took place last week. Penn State riflers scored a total of 496 points against each of their opponent's teams. Carnegie Tech forfeited their match while Beaver College and New Mexico maximum of 496 points reached The University of Washington was next with a score of 484 points and Cornell was right on their heels shooting a total of 483. The University of Cincin atti was low team with only 475 points. Riflers shooting for Penn State were B. J. Sammons and Teresa Sheehan who both had perfect scores of 100 points. Jacqueline Schock and Loretta Stempinski were close behind when they hit a total of 99 each. Patricia Kol pien followed with a score of 98. Intramural Playoffs Intramural playoffs will begin next week and women's softball will start on Monday. All-Col lege badminton and table tennis will also begin next Monday and girls interested in playing should sign up for either or both games in White Hall by Tuesday, March 22 Golf and tennis are also on the sport's agenda. Both games should be signed up for by Mon day, March 28. There will be no intramurals in golf or tennis, only all-college competition. Weddin g Suhey—Higgins terday of the marriage of Miss terday of the manage of Miss Virginia Higgins, daughter of Mr and Mrs. R. A. Higgins, State Col lege, to Steven Suhey, of Caza novia, N.Y. The wedding took place in Albion, N.Y., March 5. Miss Higgins graduted from the College June 1948 in Physical Education and will continue as director of physical education at Juniata College where she began work in February. She is a mem ber of Kappa Alpha Theta. Suhey, a junior at the College, is a member of Sigma Pi. He played on the 1947 Cotton Bowl team and was elected as an All- American in that year. He now plays professional football with the Pittsburgh Steelers. College each came close to the by scoring 495 respectively. Sorority Pledges For the purposes of accuracy and immediate publication, the women's staff of the Daily Col legian . asks . all sororities to hand in the names of their new pledges to the Collegian office by Thursday. This particularly applies to girls pledged during the informal rushing period. Chimes Prepares For Spring Tapping Chimes, national junior women's honorary, has sent out recommendation blanks in prep aration for spring tapping of out standing women students in their fourth or fifth semester. Prospective tappees must show qualities of scholarship, leader ship, and 'service to the College, and must have attained at least a 1:15 all-College average. Members of Cwens are ineligibl".. Recommend alio', blanks have been sent to outstanding women students, the leaders of the var ious women's organizations, dormitory hostesses, and the Dean of Women's Office. The forms must be filled out and returned to the Dean of Women's Office by March 22. Zeta Tau Alpha Zeta Tau Alpha recently ini tiated Nancy Anderson, Betty Eby, Joyce Hornberger, Sylvia Kulp, Betsy Lumley, Tracy McCormick, Rosalie Newton, Ruth Pollard, Kathleen Robb, Mary Roland, Peggy Lou Rothermel, Isabel Sor enson, and Judy Williams. The dark-haired junior stepped into the position of WRA presi dent when Pauline Globisch Par sons left in February. Previous to that time, Nancy had been ac tive in WRA as social chairman and then as vice-president this year. Among the many projects that WRA has undertaken this year, Nancy has worked on the Christ mas party, an annual affair for underprivaeged children; the Sweetheart Dance; Play Day; the Intramural program; and the WRA reception for Miss Haidt. Sparse Representatives "I don't think the girls realize the equipment is there for their use,'' • Nancy said in speaking of the sparse representation of the College women who use White Hall equipment. She continued by saying that on Saturday night, any coed is welcome to come to White Hall and play basketball, badminton, bowling, or use the swimming pool. Nancy is from Ephrata, "near Lancaster." A physical education major, she is a member of Lakon ides, physical education honorary.
