TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 1949 g# Hazelton Enters Cheerleader In Freshman Coed Contest This is the fourth of a series of thumbnail sketches of the finalists in the Miss Penn State Freshman Coed contest. Miss Mary Lou Pol lock is Hazleton Center's entry. Mary Lou Pollock, blue-eyed, blonde, freshman coed chosen by an "overwhelming majority" of the 449 students at Hazleton, will be "very happy to represent the Center in the contest" and is "anxious to see the campus," she says. Mary Lou has never visited the campus lost, but her friends at the Center are sure at all in finding someone willing to guide her. Miss Penn State Freshman Coed will be selected next Thursday and will be pre sented on stage at the pre view of "Mother Is a Fresh man." The winner will again be presented over WMAJ later that evening. In high school Mary Lou was a Master Thespian, president of the Cadette club, cheerleader, and a member of the Swimming and Oratorical clubs. At the Center she is continuing to lead the cheers for the cham pion basketball team, is secretary of the Women's Organization, pub licity manager for the German club and a member of the Chemis try club which she finds beneficial in her field pre-med. Although she handles test tubes with dex terity, she displays equal ability at the piano. Mary Lou is known at the Cen ter for the sparkle in her eyes when she laughs, which is often. She is modest and quiet, but once you talk with her you.find she is a glib' and delightful conversation alist. According to Panhellenic rules sororities are not restricted to any silent periods during this time. Bids will be received, unsealed and stamped, at the Dean of Wo men's office beginning at 8 o'clock Monday morning. Sororities are allowed to send out bids during the remainder of the semester; as well as rush informally. Zata Tau Alpha Zeta Tau Alpha was recently hostess to the national field sec retary of the sorority, Miss Wan da Garver. Miss Garver is a grad uate of the College and was pres ident of the local chapter when she was a student. Alpha Epsilon Pi Alpha Epsilon Pi held a record concert Friday night. The pro gram included works by Beeth oven and Bach. Refreshments dancing followed the concert.
