Panhel Reminds Sororities
Of Pre-Rushing Silent Period
Sororities were reminded of the rushing "silent period" now
being observed and urged to impress absolute silence between their
members and prospective rushees by Adelaide Finkelston, president
of Panhellenic Council, at its meeting Tuesday night.
Miss Ellamae Jackson informed Panhel that all girls desiring
to be rushed and pledged this semester should bring their transcripts
to her in the dean of women's of
five so that she may average their
grades. This would function as a
double service in providing all-
College averages for the girls and
a list of coeds who desire to be
rushed.
Miss Jackson also advised the
Council that photostatic copies of
transcripts could be made in 309
Old Main at five cents a copy for
each member of a group and ten
cents a copy individually.
Open Houses
Gilda Greco, chairman of the
rushing committee, reported the
division of sororities for the two
open houses scheduled to begin
this semester's informal rush
period. Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha
Gamma Delta, Alpha Xi Delta,
Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta, Gam
ma Phi Beta, Kappa Alpha Theta
and Zeta Tu Alpha will hold open
houses on Saturday, February 26,
from to 5 p.m.
Open houses will be held at the
same time on Sunday, February
27, by Alpha Omicron Pi, Beta
Sigma Omicron, Chi Omega, Delta
Delta Delta, Kappa Delta, Kappa
Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu and Theta
Phi Alpha. Alpha Epsilon Phi,
Phi Sigma Sigma and Sigma
Delta Tau will also hold open
houses on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Reject Petition
Panhel voted to reject the peti
tion of Alpha Sigma Chi to estab
lish a chapter at the College fol
lowing a rule made last Spring
by the Council to accept no sorori
ties for two years.
In following up a suggestion
made to revise Panhel by includ
ing presidents of sororities as rep
resentatives, the Council approv
ed a plan designating a committee
to obtain information on the rep
resentation and functioning of
Panhellenic Councils on other
campuses.

Leonides Plan
Pajama Party
Arrangements are being made
for a pajama party to be held in
Atherton and McAllister dormi
tories and Women's Building so
that all new women may become
acquamted with Leonides.
Rose Eiffert, president of Leon
ides, women's independent asso
ciation, appointed a committee
Monday night to organize .the
party for February 27.
Those on the committee for
the parties are Kay Kuharsky,
coordinating chairman, Marie
Card, Joyce Youndt, and Gloria
Zack.
It was decided by Leomdes re
presentatives to set dues at 25
cents per semester for indepen
dent women.
Plans were also discussed con
cerning the mixer to be given by
the independent men and Leon
ides February 27 at the Tub. The
mixer will be •an open affair.
Sarah Roberttson was appoint
ed to work on plans for a carni
val booth during Spring Week.
Lock Haven Editor
To Be Guest at Tea
For Journ Women
All women students in jour
nalism are Invited to a tea to
meet Miss Rebecca Gross, man
aging editor of the Lock Haven
Express, in the main lounge of
Simmons Hall from 3 to 5 p.m.
Sunday. Theta Sigma Phi, wo
men's professional journalism
honorary, will sponsor the affair.
Miss Gross, one of three women
;clitoral of daily newspapers in
the state, won first prize with her
editorial on leadership in the na
tional contest sponsored by the
Ladies Home Journal. She was
also a Neiman Scholar at Harvard
University several years ago. This
is an award given to an outstand
ing journalist every year for
graduate study in the social sci
ences.
Miss Gross, a Theta Sigma Phi,
was initiated at the student chap
ter at Temple University. She
just returned from Columbia Uni
versity where she attended a ser
ies of discussions for editors of
small city dailies.
The tea is an opportunity for
women journalism students to
meet a prominent woman in jour
nalism and to meet other journal
ism students on the campus.
Frances Keeney is in charge of
arrangements for the affair; Dor
othy Hunsberger, refreshments;
Diane Peterson, invitations; and
June Snyder, decorations.
