SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1948 Dorm Phones Now on 5051 A new and greatly enlarged dormitory telephone system op ened for service Sunday. Moved from Atherton Hall to the new Simmons Hall as part of a Col lege expansion program, the new switchboard wiil serve all men’s and women’s dormitories on campus. The campus dormitory number remains 5051. Each room in Atherton, McEl \gain and Simmons Halls will have a telephone and a number of pay stations will be located in the halls and administrative places. Approximately 75 tele phones will be located in the other dormitories. On calls into the dormitories, service will be facilitated if the dprmitory name and room num ber ar e given to the operator. In Pollock Circle and Nittany Dorms, the number of the dorm itory should be given. Calls to McAllister, Grange and Tri- Dprms will be hastened if the fl{>or number of the individual being called is mentioned. ' The telephone service is en tirely manual and the switch board seats eight operators. As all of the dormitories are not com- Sleted it is doubtful that more lan six operators will be used at present. The two-position switchboard iri Atherton Hall has been disconnected. There will be no change in pol icy or type of system, with the same rules and regulations as previously observed m effect, ac cording to Robert Y. Sigworth, supervisor of utilities.
