Complete Plans
Of Men's Dorms
Planning has been completed
lor the construction of five major
dormitory units, providing rooms
fbr 1200 men students, in the area
south and west of the Tri-dorms.
A dining hall capable of serv
ing 1500 men also will be built.
It will house a canteen for men, a
game room, a lounge, and post
office facilities.
One dormitory unit will join
Jordan Hall and extend south,
parallel to Sparks. A second unit
will be built south of the first,
joining it by mean s of a second
floor arch.
Another unit will extend
southward from Watts Hall, and
will join a fourth unit by a sim
ilar archway. A terraced court
facing Pollock road and the Min
eral Industries building will thus
be formed by the four new units
and the Tri-dorms.

The Temporary Union Building,
stop-gap recreation center erect
ed last year to fill student needs
until funds become available for
a permanent structure, was aug
mented during the summer by the
conversion of the Pollock Circle
dining commons to the Pollock
Union Building.
While the combined facilities of
the TUB and PUB are not expect
ed to fulfill the need for a Union
Building completely, the eight
tables for table tennis in one wing
of the PUB are in excess of those
orovided at several prominent
rowes and Curtin roads merge,
the fifth dormitory unit will be
built. The dining hall will join
the unit south of Watts Hall, fac
ing Burrowes road.
Lounges, social quarters,
pressing and typing rooms, and
other conveniences will be pro
vided in the five new units. There
also will be a suite for a house

The decision to convert the Pol
lock Circle building was made in
response to requests of men stu
dents living in that area and as
facilities at the TUB became more
and more inadequate, he said.
Twin wing lounges, a main
lounge, dance floor, kitchen, game
room, card room, and offices com
pose the interior of the TUB, lo
cated directly behind the infirm
ary. The dance floor has been the
scene of numerous all - college
dances, including Forestry Ball
and Beaux Arts Ball.

Candy, soft drinks, and cigarette
vending machines have been
placed in the PUB. One wing of
the building consists of a lounge
where students can play checkers,
chess, or other games. There will
be magazines available in the
reading room. The other wing will
house the table tennis tables.
