The first no-hit. no-run game
of the Summer Sessions Softball
tournament was turned in bv
pitcher Don Baldwin, of the Pi
Kappa Alpha team.
Baldwin’s control was near
perfect as he issued only one
walk in seven innines and al
lowed only one Beta Sigma Rho
man to reach third base. Three
other Beta Sigma Rho men got
on base by virtue of Pi Kappa
Alnha errors. Don now tigs a rec
ord of one win and one loss.

straight win of the tournament.
Phi Kanna was assured of repre
senting the fraternity league in
the championship plavoffs sched
uled to get under wav Monday
August 2. The nlavoffs for the
championship will be the best of

Harper , Gross Meet in Title
Match of Intramural Tourney
Out of the five flights comprising the Summer Sessions Golf
tournament, only one has been completed. J. Gehris defeated Dave
Plank to gain the laurels in the fifth flight. Four more flights remain
to be played off.
In the first flight, Jack Harper meets Bill Gross with the cham
pionship of that flight at stake. No definite date has been set for this
match, because Harper is suffering from an acute case of poison ivy

American Legion tournament at
Mt. Union.
Qualifying for the Legion
tournament starts Friday.
Polsklan Joins
Collegians for
All-Star Classic
Johnny Potsklan, former Penn
State end and co-captain, has
been added to the collegiate
squad which meets the Chicago
Cardinals in the annual All-Star
football game at Soldiers’ Field,
Chicago, Aug. 20.
Potsklan, who recently signed
a contract with the Pittsburgh
Steelers of the National Football
league, graduated from the Col
lege last spring.
The Brownsville end will join
three -other Nittany Lions in ad
dition to coach Bob Higgins who
will be an assistant coach at the
annual All-Star classic.
Other Penn Staters who will
play in the All-Stai game are
Jeff Durkota, who reported for
practice with the Buffalo Bills of
the All-America Conference this
week; Steve Suhey, all-America
guard who will play for the
Steelers this fall; and former co
captain John Nolan, tackle, of
Glen Falls, N. Y.
Higgins had previously been
named an assistant coach for the
collegians in the All-Star game.
Durkota was among the squad
of 53 who opened the Buffalo
Bills’ training at East Aurora, N.
Y., yesterday. He and Bob Leon
etti, ex-Wake Forest guard,
toughened up for the fall cam
paign with the Bills by doing
construction work this summer.
Several other Penn Staters will
play for the Steelers thi- fall. Al
ready under contract for the 1948

Penn State will inaugurate
pre-season football practice on
the campus Wednesday, Septem
ber 8. The season will open Sat
urday, October 2, against Buck
oell University.

scoring ace. will not be available
for the 1948 soccer season. His
leg, which was broken in mid
season, is on the mend but his
physicians have advised him
against premature activity.
