PENNSYLVANIA Between the Lions— By Ben French John P. Tighe, also known by a variety of nicknames fr o m "Tiger" to "Gentleman Jackie," fought the toughest bout of his _arcer last Saturday night. Making his final appearance in the Rec Hall ring, the two-time captain of the Lion boxing team accepted the Frank J. Goodman trophy as the outstanding senior boxer—in civilian clothes. Sitting out his first dual meet in four years of varsity and freshman competition was harder for Jackie to take than a first round knockout. It was made more difficult when well-wishers slapped him on the back later and said, "With you in there, we'd have won!" The EIBA champ didn't tell them what it meant to him to be sitting on the bench. A head in jury, sustained in his Michigan State bout had practically left him paralyzed the week before and the team physician refused to allow him to box. Hampered all season by a serious nose injury, he had enter ed the ring several times against the physician and coach's recom mendations. Jackie Tighe will box in the Eastern Intercollegiate tourna ment this weekend. Regardless of how well he does, many fans will always feel that the best exhibi tion of his career was the ninth bout last Saturday night.
