Here is the "board of strategy" which is preparing the West
Virginia University Mountaineers for their grid test against
Penn State Saturday. In the usual order, they are Charles (Pete)
Yost, center coach; Leonard (Feets) Barnum, backfield coach;
John Shonk, end coach; Irvin (Stretch) Howell, first assistant;
State, W. Virginia Clash
In East's Top Rated Game
Penn State an West Virginia come to grips Saturday in what
shapes up as 'one of the East's top football games.
The game, 14th in a series started in 1904, brings together on New
Beaver Field two of the nation's high-scoring teams. An overflow
crcwd of 20,0010 is expected to be on hand for the kickoff at 2 p.m
MOUNTAINEER RECORD
The Mountaineers have racked
up a total of 194 points so far
this season, defeating Otterbein,
Washington and Lee, Waynes
burg and N.Y.U.
The West Virginia squad is
more or less an unknown quan
tity despite the high scores piled
up against their opponents. None
of the four teams they have
played are classed as first rate,
but, according to Coach Bob Hig
gins, the Mountaineers are really
loaded this year.
Saturday's game, the first be
tween these two teams since
1944, will find Bill Kern, Moun
taineer coach, cast in a new role.
Heretofore a strong disciple of
the single wing, the West Vir
ginia mentor has switched to the
T and has enjoyed unusual suc
cess with it. The Kern T is a com
bination of the Notre Dame and
Army styles, plus variations of
his own.
